Anyone looking to buy?

I sold a flat last March, forward purchase of a house fell through. Went into rented for 6 months but it was so expensive I'm now back living with family.

I'm a no chain buyer with a good deposit. But nothing is coming up. When does the January rush start?

I will be looking to buy in March but I've been keeping an eye out for the last couple of months and today there seems to be a few more properties than normal so hopefully it's starting to get a bit better from now on for you op.

Wandawide · 11/01/2022 15:09

We will be looking for a house soon, it should have been last year.

FanGirlX · 11/01/2022 15:39

Are you both planning on selling properties too?

That seems to be the problem at the moment, nothing coming on the market.

@areyouhavingagiraffe

Are you still around?

I’m looking to buy and have been practically living on RightMove! It’s disheartening!

Banana175 · 11/01/2022 15:51

Me! Accepted an offer on my flat just before Christmas, but nothing is coming on the market. I'm also three months pregnant, so on a bit of a deadline! Hmm Might have to end up moving in to rental...

Pickandmix41 · 11/01/2022 15:55

We are just about to list ours for sale, photographs being taken next week. One of my worries is us not finding anything to buy as there is so little out there right now!! Keeping everything crossed it picks up soon.

Lonelycrab · 11/01/2022 16:11

To say it’s a sellers market is a massive understatement. Nothing is coming on in the SE, at least not in good areas. My parents are looking for a place and are finding the places they look at have dozens of viewings- the agents cant keep up. If you offer you are likely one of a dozen plus if the property is desirable. Hopefully when spring arrives the situation will balance out a bit.

pocketfullofstorms · 11/01/2022 16:13

We are in this situation too. Desperate to sell but absolutely nothing coming on the market and the things that are available are massively expensive. Am quite worried about it actually.

stingofthebutterfly · 11/01/2022 16:18

Unsure at the moment but maybe. Struggling to decide whether to stay put and convert the loft, or move, but like you say, there's nothing available. I'd hate to be the ones that were holding up a chain because we couldn't find anything.

FanGirlX · 11/01/2022 16:43

This is the problem - people not putting theirs up for sale in case they can't find anything to buy. Something has to give at some point.

Are you still around?

I'm hoping you've all found somewhere. I had 6 weeks off over Christmas and have just started looking again today.

Hey @FanGirlX. Still around. My situation hasn't changed. Still looking.....Took time out over Xmas, not much happening, was expecting a big January rush. It's my birthday today so took the week off to spend at a spa, and stop worrying about the housing market. I will find somewhere! X

stuntbubbles · 11/01/2022 17:24

There was a massive house dump on Rightmove on Boxing Day, then another NY Day, and now it’s just shite. We’re doing up to sell in March – I think spring and sun and Easter is the traditional uptick in stuff coming to market. I’d only sell now if we were desperate – the garden looks awful, everything’s gloomy, the world is damp and dark. Selling when the days are longer, some flowers are out and the house is sunnier just makes more sense. Hang tight!

FanGirlX · 11/01/2022 17:29

Hello @areyouhavingagiraffe

Happy birthday!

Hope you find a birthday property. I was hoping for more of a January rush but it doesn't seem to be materialising. Maybe I'm too early and we'll see more coming on in the next month or so.

areyouhavingagiraffe · 11/01/2022 17:33

Thanks @FanGirlX. I was expecting a massive rush also (think EA were bigging it up a little). There was a few new things on market, but many of these were old ones which had a refreshed advert. Think they were trying to be sly! But we are not stupid!

FocacciaFingerer · 11/01/2022 17:34

I'm putting mine on the market 1st March, there's more coming on to the market now and I suspect there will be a lot more choice come the Spring.

JennyForeigner · 11/01/2022 17:38

Ok, this is interesting for someone about to list our very beautiful home which just isn't quite big enough for our fast-growing family.

Anyone want to buy a completely unique 15th century thatched cottage with an enormous garden and a fun glass back wall? 90 minutes out of London and 10 from the centre of Nottingham ;-)

DonGray · 11/01/2022 18:06

Lots of new places coming on in SW London

EL1984 · 11/01/2022 18:08

We've had our central London flat in the market since September and no offers yet 😞 not many viewings either, about 2 per week.

stuntbubbles · 11/01/2022 18:14

@JennyForeigner, ooh, my dream house if you could move the location to Sussex! From all my Rightmove lurking, the quirky old properties go very very quickly – the trouble it sifting through the 1,000,000 terrible dated and dilapidated former new builds with tiny floor plans to find the gold

Porfre · 11/01/2022 18:17

I've just had an offer accepted on a house.
It's not what we want. But where we are living right now is not suitable.

The new house is ok for now. Maybe things will be different in a few years and we could get what we really want. But for now it will have to do.

Wotsitsits · 11/01/2022 18:23

OP if you register with estate agents and ring them weekly you will get into the secret priority buyers lists!

The stuff that hits Rightmove has already been rejected by the priority list. The good stuff doesn't make it to any website at all. It's gone via a phone call offering an immediate (same day or next day) viewing to the priority list.

Make sure you emphasize you are cash, no chain, and be specific with your criteria so they know you're not a timewaster. It will take a few weeks of ringing them but it will pay off

areyouhavingagiraffe · 11/01/2022 18:36

I'm on all the EA lists. Been on them since Spring. I've completed Sale also so am proceedable.....But still haven't found anything / had offer accepted

QueenFool · 11/01/2022 18:47

@jennyforeigner

We've sold to a cash buyer and looking in the East Mids.

We live 20mins from Nottingham atm.
But our budget is £300k so I doubt your beautiful thatched cottage will be within our budget.

Luckily we can wait a while to find somewhere so fingers crossed for spring, I've seen a couple I would like but can't get my husband to agree on them too grrr.
