Moving to Bath - areas to look at + avoid

Hi All
First time poster long time lurker.
We are strongly considering moving from london to bath as a better place for our 5 month old little girl.
Neither of us are from the UK so a little bit clueless but wondering if anyone is currently in bath are there areas you would recommend or avoid?
Looking for places that have ok transport links to the city as we don’t drive currently.
Have been looking at places in Broadmoor Lane, Hanford Square and Kempthorne to name a few.
Ideally just want somewhere you would feel safe walking alone in the evenings with a little one as that’s what I’m really not loving about london since her arrival! We both work from home permanently and have a decent budget so luckily don’t need to worry about commute etc. but do need pet friendly which limits us a bit.

Thanks in advance!

I come from near Bath and went to school there so know it a bit - I was even contemplating where I would live if I move back myself the other day

Virtually all of Bath feels safe - the only places that have a bit of a reputaton are the Twerton and Whiteway areas (but I've never had any problems around there)

I would be looking to move somewhere that is possible to walk into the centre as traffic can be bad (as you probably are aware!)- with a 5 month old you want to be near one of the parks.

I would recommend Weston near to Victoria Park but realise this can be expensive, possibly Newbridge is better value, other areas I would look at would be the Bear Flat/ Widcombe area 'behind' the station and Larkhall/ Camden just off the London Road.

As with anything the key to moving anywhere is to have a walk around/ work out how you would get to the shops/ possible nurseries and schools/ transport links etc.

I would say all of Bath and it’s surrounding areas , except Twerton is nice. Feels safe at night generally.

I was born and bred in Bath, so know the area very well. The only area I would potentially avoid is Whiteway. Twerton had a bad reputation when I was growing up, but I never felt unsafe there.

I would just make sure that the houses near you aren't student let's. That's one thing that I would hate if I paid bath prices to live next door to a student let. There are so many in bath.M, apart from that it's lovely.

Thanks everyone this is super helpful - we have a couple of viewings in the Weston area and loved the look of it so nice to hear other positive things. We are looking to rent before buying for a year at least but are coming up with a blocker as we currently have pets. But it seems like a lovely place to live so worth the wait I guess for the right property.

I’m moving to Bath, UK. Is Oak Street (BA2 3GX near the station, south of the river) a good area - is it up and coming or on the way down?
Your advice gratefully appreciated as I’m getting very overwhelmed!

Hi there!
Your new area is pretty nice ❤️it's just off a very busy road which may be a bit of a downside, but you're in really good proximity to the centre of Bath, and Widcombe / Bear Flat / Oldfield Park which are really lovely. Also Mokoko Coffee is just near you, and it's amazing! You're close to Green Park station, which has a brilliant market on Saturdays. Best of luck with your move and welcome to Bath x
