What kind of person do we need for this?

Our house has a converted garage with a pitched roof, out of which is there is a vent for the tumble drier and the kitchen fan. This has clearly failed in some way - you can tell by the smell and damp that the tumble drier is venting into the roof space, and the ceiling has started to go mouldy Confused. We obviously want to get this fixed and want to get someone in to look, but can't work out who we actually want - what kind of tradesperson (or a handyman?) would deal with this? It's not even straightforward to see exactly what the problem is as the roof space isn't big enough to open and look into. Sorry if this is a really stupid question!

A builder who does a lot of kitchens and bathrooms?

If you can't actually see what has gone wrong, maybe get a general builder to come in and just expose the vent eg by taking down some plasterboard. If as you suspect flue is incorrectly installer or has become detached, you or the builder might be able to fix it easily - or failing that you need someone with 'ventilation' or 'building services' in their skill set (which should be anyone who regularly fits kitchens and/or bathrooms. )

Thank you, that makes sense, that we need the sort of person who would have done it in the first place! I'll have to start ringing round but I'm dreading it a bit - I think it'll be hard to find someone who fancies doing it...

See if you can get a recommendation from someone locally?
