Removal firm recommendations - Pickford's any good?

We are hoping to move a short notice next week, lots of removals firms are booked for next Friday. Pickford's can do it. Does anyone know if they are any good, or can recommend anyone else national or in West Mids who is good for last minute

They have always been fine when we have used them. Not in your part of the country though.

I had a quote from Pickfords last year but didn't use them for two reasons.

  1. They were twice the price of everyone else.
  2. They were the only company who wanted to do it over 2-days (50-mile move).

They were brilliant and negotiated price to match another quote (12 years ago though). It was good doing it over two days, took a lot of stress out

They are pricier than most, but if they can do it then you may not have any options with such short notice.

We used Pickfords to move from SE to NW. The person who came out to quote us actually said, when you get the quote make sure you ring up and say it's too high, then they'll knock some off for you. Good enough, we complained the quote was much higher than we would like, and they duly knocked several hundred pounds off without argument. So my tip would be to make sure you negotiate the price!

We've used them years ago and they were fine - experienced and realistic. They were a bit pricier than the other quotes but not hugely so. Helpful removers who were good at communicating on the day.

We just moved with a cheaper firm and they were awful - did it in 3 days instead of the 4 days that put the price up for other firms we approached. They were recommended by friend which is why we chose them and offered Covid cover should we need to cancel at short notice. They did it in 3 days by being really slapdash, ignoring where we wanted stuff and putting it wherever was easiest for them (resulting in stuff that should be on second floor in the garage!). They communicated in grunts and mostly ignored us. It took several extra days of our time to sort out the chaos and we're going to have to pay someone to actually get our furniture to the floors we need it on. So it wasn't any cheaper in the end!

With the caveat that this all happened 15 years ago, they were great when I did a 400 mile relocation, including 5 months with the lot in storage in between. I would use them again.

We booked with Pickfords and on the day a van from what we thought was a smaller localish firm turned up - they said that Pickfords have basically bought up most of the competition.

First move was in the thousands, next time (we have had to move 4 times in the last 4 years) I booked on Anyvan for a few hundred pounds and the job was just as good.

Hell no !! This firm is despicable. "Lost" my priceless antiques in London and stonewalled my complaint. USE any other firm, they are seriously incompetent.

My tip would be to find an honest company that gives you a genuine price in the first place, without any of those silly games.

Local Facebook groups are usually good for getting recommendations.
