Thermal survey - worth it?

We've moved into a Victorian detached house and it's cold (previously lived in a terrace which wasn't quite as cold) and am considering a thermal survey.

We've been quoted £1200 Inc VAT, has anyone else had one, and was it worth it?

We had one done, though almost ten years ago and on a very large converted church so can’t comment too much on the price you’ve been quoted.

Yes, it was worthwhile: we’d been considering installing (extremely expensive) secondary glazing over the stained glass but were surprised when the survey revealed the windows weren’t our biggest source of heat loss but that it was the floor and the eaves - which were much cheaper and more convenient to insulate. It also identified a serious fault in the newly installed roof lanterns which we were able to claim for under warranty.

If you’re balking a little at the price, have you checked out the obvious stuff first, like making sure your radiators are sized correctly for the room sizes, adequate loft insulation, that the window frames aren’t draughty, heavy curtains or blinds, insulation tape around skirting and joints etc? Can make a huge difference.
