Nice Villages in Warwickshire

Hi there,

We live in Warwickshire and my parents want to move up from the South to retire and be nearer us & their grandchildren.

They are slightly spoilt in where they currently live in that its an edge of London/ Surrey location with beautiful scenery & brilliant amenities - like Butchers, Bakers, Veg shops, Cafes, Restaurants and Pubs etc.

Obviously we are unlikely to find all the above - but a nice village pub in a walkable village is a non - negotiable. A shop / butcher / veg shop or cafe would be a plus.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Mickleton? And illmington? They both have shops, pubs and one has a cafe and the other a butchers. I think Illmington is often voted as one of the nicest villages in the country to live in. Both v close to each other. Ettington the same, but doesn't have a butchers. The lovely Snitterfield has all the things you mentioned too.
Or a small market town? Shipston has all of those things. Wellesbourne? Although I always feel has a more modern feel (probably undeserved). Then the lovely Henley-in-Arden if you are wanting bigger village/town.
All the above are surrounded by beautiful locations. Most are in AONB or bordering. All above also a 10-20min drive to Stratford and/or Moreton-in-Marsh.

Another vote for Snitterfield. I spent many happy summers there staying with close relatives - who still live there today.

Has a pub and shop. Very pretty, walkable and a good local community. Supportive but not in your business.

Warwickshire is big - which part? My knowledge is limited to South Warks but perhaps some of the following? They are not all villages:

Henley-in-Arden
Lowsonford has a fantastic pub but no shop, I think
Hatton
Wootton Wawen
Studley (less naice / pretty but very well appointed for pubs and high street)
Also a third vote for Snitterfield
Or just over the border in Solihull for Knowle / Dorridge / Bentley Heath

These ideas are probably useless if you live in Rugby, though.

Dunchurch.

Oh and Lapworth.

Thank you both! I will have a look and will get organising a day trip :)

Ooo even more suggestions!

We are currently in one of the towns - think Leamington/ Rugby / Cov side; but we will be moving in the next 5 - 10 years so finding the right location for my parents is priority and we can then move closer in that direction later.

Southam although the main shops are on a bit of a hill. Parts of Cubbington are very nice

Shrewley? (pub and shop, but no butcher)
Wilmcote (as above)
Kineton (more of a small town)
Offchurch (no shop, I don't think?)
Lapworth (choice of excellent pubs, but maybe lacking a 'village' feel)
Gaydon/Lighthorne (good amenities, but near the motorway)

And many more besides. But it does all depend on how close you want to be when you move - Kineton would easily be half an hour from Coventry, so if the aim is to be very close by, I'd think about where you're likely to end up (are schools/jobs determining this?) and take it from there. One thing Warwickshire has plenty of is nice small villages with pubs and walking, but you could easily end up over 30/40/50 minutes away, which could be an issue (or could be what you're looking for!)

That way nice villages are Barford and Bishop's Tachbrook. Nice town is Southam. Dunchurch is nice too.

Ilmington wins lots of 'best village' awards so it depends on their budget.
