Two neighbouring extensions butting up against one another with eccentric foundations - anyone had something similar constructed?

I wondered what the complications might be with this kind of construction? Can builders excavate right up to the boundary and expose neighbours foundations? Do the foundations have to be separated and what happens if there is no separation (ie concrete poured into trench alongside neighbours foundations? If they need to be separated how are they supposed to be separated? I am getting different opinions on this from so-called specialists so don’t know who to believe/rely on!

This is for 1 metre deep trench foundations for side return walls (new wall to be built next to an existing wall/extension) will the foundations right up to the neighbours foundation and wall built on edge of foundation right next to neighbours wall (so eccentric loading on both foundations).

Has anyone had anything similar built?

Also how did you deal with the small gap between the properties to stop rain and debris getting in?

Thanks for any suggestions!
