Is anyone with Octopus? Is this part of their smart meter set up?

So we have changed over and used to have a smart meter. I switched it off and chucked it as it was first gen and via Wi-Fi. We now have had one installed by Octopus and I am regretting it hugely. Massive bill increase - £20 used in electricity in two days, I’m so stressed by the costs.
I want to remove what I think is the old meter but I need to check it’s not part of Octopus’ who are being unhelpful in confirming.

Do you mean the actual meter or the extra display thing? Could you take a picture?

PeaceONoeuf · 02/01/2022 21:09

This is what I think the last meter used

Sorry - this is inside the water cistern thing hit water tank in airing cupboard

It goes into a mass of cables and (probably irrationally) I want to get rid of it in case it’s somehow impacting the new meter.

Is that not the electrical supply to your hot water cylinder. Is the black bit a button? Is it just electricity you have or gas too?

Wibble128 · 02/01/2022 21:24

@PeaceONoeuf that is the Geo Cosy Thermostat switch for your boiler. See here: docs.geotogether.com/d/cosy/UserVoice/Installation/COSY-Z-USG-102_7.PAGES.pdf page 8 of 20 for a picture

It goes into a mass of cables like this and it used to switch on to green if I pressed the middle X

@Wibble128 I am confused now - we have a thermostat here on the actual cylinder

Do you have a cosy hub and app?

dementedpixie · 02/01/2022 21:36

Looks like it's a smart system to control your heating from a mobile device. Do you have all the other bits and bobs for the system to work?

confettiballoons · 02/01/2022 21:40

Hey there, that’s not part of our smart meter no, as other peeps say - but I also work for octopus and £20 in two days sounds a bit odd. If you DM me your details I’ll get someone to have a look (sorry if we’ve been unhelpful at all so far).

Wibble128 · 02/01/2022 21:40

@PeaceONoeuf it "should" be related to the room thermostat. While Page 8 shows where it should be connected, page 13 shows what it should do. This is the link to the quick start for the Geo Cosy switch
docs.geotogether.com/d/cosy/UserVoice/Using%20Cosy/Cosy-R2-Switch-QSG-COSY-B-USG-100_2.pdf
More guides can be found here:

Should affect electricty usage, as it should be gas related.

Wibble128 · 02/01/2022 21:42

Edit: should NOT affect electricity usage, as it should be gas related

Thank you - we do have a smart meter with octopus - it was installed recently and has new meters outside (so I can’t take a traditional reading) and a WiFi display which plugs in bit uses it’s own WiFi not ours.
@confettiballoons
Previously we had what must have been cosy with a different supplier - this is a couple of years ago. So thank you everyone for checking as google wasn’t helping and now I will ask the electrician to remove this just in case.

@confettiballoons im so sorry if that sounded rude, I’d sent a photo and not really got anywhere with my question about removing it. I have sent two emails today (I know it’s not working hours) so if no luck next week I will dm you. I’ve been t tying to work out what we’ve used and tomorrow I’m going to check the reading before we go out and when we get back.

@Wibble128 thank you, I’ll have a look at the guide where you’ve referenced. That is ringing a massive bell! One reason for ditching it first time was we could only have three temperature settings. You lot are so helpful, I’m starting the new year determined to get on top of all this stuff.

No worries! We’ve people working over the Christmas break (I did a shift on Christmas Day) but some of our experts are off so someone may have been flummoxed. We’re working today as well but might be a couple of days to get back to you as we’re trying to let people have some downtime. Please do message me if you get any odd answers but they should support the above :)

PeaceONoeuf · 02/01/2022 22:14

Thank you - I appreciate it must be so busy. It’s just very stressful trying to figure stuff out and getting answers to different questions to the one you asked! Found out in here thanks to the super sleuthing and insider knowledge so at least I can get that ticked off. I’m just trying to work out what it could possible be.

I’ve just checked as our bills are through the roof and the smart meter is showing £4.46 used already today (it’s 6.20am) for electricity???
