Good electric hob that isn't induction?

I love cooking with my cast iron pots and pans and I'm not keen to give them up! But every time I look up electric hobs I keep finding induction hobs, even if I put "-induction" in the search box. Is there a reasonably fast-heating one out there that isn't induction? I know they'll never be as instantaneous as gas (despite what my induction hob-obsessed inlaws say lol) but I'm fed up of struggling to clean gas hobs, it's at the point where we just end up leaving it grimy for days at a time Blush

Would greatly appreciate your recommendations!

Cast iron will work perfectly on induction. Induction hobs are the best kind of electric hob there is. Highly recommend getting one, they actually heat up the pan much quicker than gas.

Oh really? Gosh I thought you had to get special pans that would trigger the hob to come on or something?

Although what about the ones that are coated in ceramic, would that stop it from working?

You need pans that will trigger the magnets. Cast iron will do this. As will steel. Even the coated cast iron pans will work just fine.

Oh right! That opens up options for us! Thank you, I was dreading throwing out my lovely cookware.

To check if a pan works on an induction hob just use a magnet. If the magnet sticks to the pan, the pan will work on the hob.

Brill thank you! I'll go find something magnetic and plonk it on the bases of all my pans to see if it sticks! Grin

If they’re le creuset type things, they’ll work. They definitely work in induction.

Love my induction. I did what you did and got a magnet to check the good saucepans.

All good bar a couple of frying pans.

Almost all of my pans are cast iron and work perfectly on my induction hob. Just do the magnet test.

I wouldn’t go back. My hob is faster than gas. Just be prepared to accept that your in-laws were right…

I'm just about to move and am going from Induction to gas. I'm a little bit heartbroken.

I was a bit heartbroken when I did the same. I miss my induction hob.
