Obsessing about buying new home wares/furniture

I am properly not unique in that I often find myself trying to fill emotional voids in my life through buying things. It used to be through clothes more - that feeling that a particular pair of boots would make my life so much better. But more recently it’s house stuff - I keep obsessing about new curtains or even kitchen stuff. Can anyone relate to this feeling?

Yes, and like you say it’s trying to fill an emotional void. It really doesn’t work in the long term. I know when my mental health is not what it should be when I get sudden fits of having to change things around the house. Changing my life in general is far too difficult, changing some cushions is easy as pie and makes me feel better for a quick minute. My relationship is in the crapper atm. I can tell you that my house has never been so thought out and tidy. It’s a displacement activity

I’m not sure I fill emotional voids, but I do focus on my home a lot and am proud of it, so I spend a lot of time and thought in finding the perfect unique thing for it. I work, habe friends, family, active social life, but I am quite home obsessed to be honest.

Interesting. Yes, I can’t really change much in my life right now - so I am sure that’s part of it. And when I do make some small improvement and buy something even small fir the house, it gives me a very short term feeling of satisfaction!

Yes. I do this when I’m bored. I buy stuff and obsessively change the rooms around. I now have a different job and a new house and I don’t do it anymore as I keep myself busy. I also stop looking on Instagram. There is always another colour or way to do things.
