We are thinking of adding a second storey to an extended kitchen to give us a second bathroom and a bigger bedroom for DD2. The extension was added (by the previous owners) in 2003. I understand we would have to expose the foundations to see if they can withstand a second storey. Has anyone done this before? What happens if the foundations are not adequate?? The total extra floorspace would be around 11ft x 11ft I think. The addition should not impact our neighbours as the house next door is a different style and shape from ours and the back of their house ends before our extension starts, if that makes sense. Any ballpark costs would be good to know- assuming the foundations don't need any strengthening, we are in the North West. All wisdom gratefully received!
