Smell in bathroom

We recently moved into a new house and there is a really bad smell in one of the bathrooms. Upon some investigation we think it's a badly installed drain on the wet room shower as ther appear to be no functioning trap. It looks to me like the inner cup which creates the seal is missing but maybe it's something else. I can't figure out how the people who lived here before put up with it as its a terrible smell in the main bedroom 😔 see pics of the opened up drain. Any advice would be welcome...wondering if it's best to get a whole new drain fitted to try solve the issue.

We had this and a plumber had to fit a new drain trap. It cost about £300 (central London prices) but it was fixed easily in a couple of hours
