What wall tiles go with penny floor tiles?

We're having the bathroom redone next month. It's quite a small bathroom. I've decided on hexagonal penny tiles - white with dark grout - on the floor (see photo of the sort of thing). What should I get on the walls?

Options are:
(1) white metro tiles - probably white grout
(2) white Zellige tiles
(3) anything else?

I have Zellige tiles in the kitchen and they're very beautiful, though the colour is more off white/grey, and they're deliberately uneven, so would be tricky to clean.

What does MN think?

I'm not keen on that combination. There is a clash of the whites and a clash of styles.
i think the wall tiles should be invisible and the penny tiles the star. So either large format matching white or very pale colour contrast (grey blue etc)

White metro with white grout shouldn't steal the limelight though?

I've obviously not seen or been in the bathroom. I don't know how much you're tiling and white metro tiles/white grout may be fine if they match exactly.

I'm not proposing to replicate that picture! The picture is to show what the floor tiles will look like. I propose to have either Zellige tiles or white metro tiles with WHITE grout. And I'd match the white tiles to the penny tiles.

The amazing thing about dark grout is not only how it looks aesthetically though, it is also brilliant at hiding the stains you normally get with white grout, over time.

I agree with a pp who suggested a large format plain white tile (with dark grout). We have patterned floor tiles in the bathrooms and went for A4 size plain white tiles with the dark grout so as not to detract from the floor tiles.

I don't really like it with Zellige or Metro, sorry, but I'm not sure what it does look good with. Both combs look a bit institutional to me

Yes, it's not the grout it's the tile combo.. but, it's your bathroom and if you love it then do it!

I think in my opinion the bigger and plainer the better
But out of your choices white metro and white grout

Can anyone give an example of 'large white tiles' please? I see your point re metro being a bit busy.

There's almost a bit of an ombre feel from the white of the floor going through to the pink ceiling.

I personally think penny tiles on the floor look far better with something larger format on the walls than metro

Definitely prefer the larger tiles

I wouldn't get the pink grout it looks great in that bathroom but we have an Edwardian house and I'd like to keep it classic.

I've found another example of penny tiles here, this time with white grout, and paired with Zellige.

I personally prefer penny tiles on walls. This is a good - easy to clean - combination.

I'm not sure I'm keen on penny tiles on walls... wouldn't the horizontal line where they end look funny?

What about this? Large square tiles on the walls.

I like your latest photo with the simple square white tiles. You could try a light grey grout so it’s not as busy looking. I also think absolutely massive plain white, pale grey or very subtle pale veined would work like 600x600 or 900x600.

Ok I've had a rethink on the penny. What about black and white marble (or porcelain equivalent) check tiles on the floor. And then classic metro on the walls. Like the attached, but I'd go with WHITE grout.

We had black and white check tiles in our old house, so I don't want just plain B&W ones again, hence the marble twist. I would go with real marble but with two little ones and a husband who seems to struggle with peeing into the toilet it just wouldn't work.
