Anyone had any experience of rewiring a flat? How much did it cost?

Im specifically talking about a 1 bed 1bath flat in west London, 41 sq m

Just had a quote for 2 bed bungalow, 100m2, approx £9000

We are moving to a four bed flat and our re-wire quote is £3,800.

It very much depends on whether you don't mind surface-mounted cables in plastic trunking going from socket to socket (cheapest), or whether you want cables hidden in the walls (more costly, time-consuming and disruptive). If you want them hidden it then depends whether you have plasterboard stud walls (easier) or brick walls which will need chasing out, replastering and redecorating.

Our flst is 1960s with concrete walls, floors and ceilings. We dropped the ceiling a small amount to help with the rewiring.

@ManchesterTartwithCustard you’re being absolutely had with that quote, we paid just over that for a 250sqm detached Victorian house (so lots of tricky original features to work around) to be totally rewired and chases replastered in April just past. I would look again!

As PP said it depends on the construction of your walls.

I would advise you not to go for surface mounted cables.

I have two sockets that have surface mounted cables one of which is a light switch in my kitchen and it caused some minor problems when I had my kitchen done.

Also every trade is charging more now as the good ones have more work than they can deal with.

Never do surface mounted! Ugly and cheap looking.
Can't help with price just try and get a couple quotes.
