Offer accepted, not allowed a second viewing ?!

Hi!
We had our offer accepted on house last week.
I asked for a second viewing to measure up, which was booked in for this week.
Now the estate agent has emailed saying they have a few staff members off with covid so need to prioritise available houses for viewings, so can I wait to have a second viewing in the new year?

This makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, am I not entitled to see it again even though my offer has been accepted?
Feels like they k

Well, you ARE allowed a second viewing - just not this week. If they are struggling with staffing i can understand them prioritising first viewings over 'measuring up' viewings when a sale has been agreed.

Wolfiefan · 13/12/2021 16:48

Why do you want to measure up though? If you’ve made an offer and it’s been accepted then isn’t it a bit late to measure up?
They have limited staff. They want to focus on the viewings that will actually make them money.

umbel · 13/12/2021 16:48

I’m sure they will accommodate your request when they are able to. It’s only been a week! There is plenty of time.

SeasonFinale · 13/12/2021 16:49

Also measuring up is more appropriate after exchange.

Viviennemary · 13/12/2021 16:50

I would withdraw the offer till the second viewing was allowed.

londonagent · 13/12/2021 16:51

Completely reasonable response. You are likely to be 3 months off completion so at least wait until nearer exchange to revisit for measuring up. If however you want a revisit to check you actually want it then you are being very cheeky as you should have done it before offering but could always ask if the owners will let you back in.

DragonMovie · 13/12/2021 16:52

@Viviennemary dangerous in today’s market.

OP it might be sensible to let the sale progress a bit anyway before you measure things. Are you measuring to be able to buy furniture or to see if your furniture will fit?

Dillydollydingdong · 13/12/2021 16:54

No hurry to do the measuring. You've got all the time in the world, right up to completion. You aren't suddenly change your minds just because something doesn't measure what you thought it was!

LakeShoreD · 13/12/2021 16:58

If it is literally just to measure for furniture then you’ll be fine to wait until the new year no? Besides I’d get the survey done before you shell out for a sofa anyway.

JabNotInArm · 13/12/2021 17:00

I would withdraw the offer till the second viewing was allowed.

And if I was the vendor I'd put it back on the market and realise I'd had a lucky escape from selling to a difficult buyer who probably wasn't that committed in the first place.

Viviennemary · 13/12/2021 17:02

I agree it does depend on the market. But I think a second viewing is a reasonable request even before making an offer.

Mildura · 13/12/2021 17:02

@Viviennemary

I would withdraw the offer till the second viewing was allowed.
What do you need to measure up for the week after an offer is accepted?

Nobody is likely to be moving until March at the earliest.

Akire · 13/12/2021 17:03

Do you have one piece of massive Furniture that’s unlikely to fit? In which case bit late I’f offer has been accepted. Or do you just want look at curtains in next 3 months?

It’s pain but they want try complete as much as they can get people moved before Xmas so going put all their a viable staff on that.

RaininSummer · 13/12/2021 17:05

I don't see why you can't wait a few weeks to be honest.

Wizardora83 · 13/12/2021 17:06

Haha this is so funny! Just be a little patient and remember there’s a pandemic going on.

Can’t believe some people are so entitled and demanding and lack empathy. Xmas Grin

Lol. Nice one OP!

MousesBack · 13/12/2021 17:13

What the f**k are you measuring for?
It's far too soon to measure for new sofas or curtains.
And if important furniture or heirlooms aren't going to fit then you shouldn't have made the offer until you were sure.
Under current circumstances, it's completely fair for the agent not to want to do unnecessary viewings and for the vendor not to want unnecessary people in their house.

MrsBobDylan · 13/12/2021 17:21

I say this as someone who is deeply impatient, relax!

It will be many tedious months before you are needing sofas and curtains.

MrsBobDylan · 13/12/2021 17:22

And also, you are allowed a second viewing, you just need to wait.

KittenCatcher · 13/12/2021 17:29

Can it wait till they have more staff and the vendors are happy for you to visit again, we dont know if covid will wffect viewings. What do you want to measure up, dont be too hasty buying new things, anything could hapoen and your offer being accepted is very early days.

daisypond · 13/12/2021 17:42

YABU. You don’t need to measure up right now. And nor are you entitled to. The estate agents are reasonable.

edification · 13/12/2021 17:47

Do you really need to go round and measure things? Why? Things like curtains are pretty immaterial and probably left with the house. I would be embarrassed to be taking a tape measure and going over the whole house so early into the process when you haven't done any checks, got any certificates, sorted out the mortgage, when people have a lot going on with Xmas decorations & cleaning & preparing for family & presents, to be honest, it's a stressful time of year

This! And you don’t need to measure up this early in the process @hensloe
ForbiddentoForbid · 13/12/2021 17:51

Can you not just ask them to send you the room window/dimensions?

The EA may already have this.

flowery · 13/12/2021 17:53

You’re not “entitled” to a second viewing, no, but you’re getting one anyway. Just not five minutes after the offer has been accepted. As the viewing is for measuring up purposes, you certainly don’t need it just yet, so it’s fine for the agent to prioritise like this.
