Loud Tv

I live in a terraced house on my own. My neighbour (man) has mounted his TV on the party wall and I can hear everything to the extent I know what programme he's watching. This morning from my bed I could hear his TV at 6.30 am. Yesterday, (Sunday) his TV was on from 6.15 am until midnight blaring out. I have made attempts to keep my own noise down by moving my TV in case this is annoying him. If I want to watch TV I also play white noise through a speaker so I can't hear the noise from his TV.

I am afraid to knock on his door to talk to him about it as I have heard him talking and swearing at people. I am not a confident person.
I have drafted a note to put through his door asking telling him I can hear the tv asking him to turn it down, move it away from the wall. AIBU? Should TV noise just be accepted as part of living next to someone? Do you think I will just wind him up even more? Advice please, the noise makes me anxious

It's such a difficult one in that TVs mounted on walls in a terraced house will be heard in the next door property very often.

In one of the terraced properties I lived in I could hear my neighbour's hairdryer in the morning and all her arguments with her partner. The other side when the phone rang I thought it was mine for a while.

If he were to mount the TV on the other wall then the other neighbour will then have the noise. Does he have the TV up louder than normal due to hearing problems?

I'm sorry to say that whilst I have every sympathy with you I do think it is part and parcel of living in a terraced property. A semi detached also gets the same with the adjoining neighbour wall.

We have this problem too. We added sound insulation to the party wall and it helped a lot but can still hear the TV in muffled tones… Our neighbour must be very deaf!

We didn’t soundproof the kitchen party wall because there are units in the way (and tiling!) but we can hear the neighbours TV in here too & it’s so loud we can hear the actual words. Even heard her sneeze the other day!! Shock

Ripping out the kitchen to sound proof the party wall is a huge job though Sad I assume she has open plan living & that’s why her noise flows around the houses.

We also have a chimney breast that seems to act like an amplifier!

I think you need to tell him although he probably will not change. You could soundproof the wall or put your tv on the wall so he can hear yours.

I cannot bear noisy neighbors.

@juliefs hello, I know this is old but we have the same issue and wondering what you did eventually?
