Stairs... alternative to carpet

We're about to replace our stair carpet, but I dont really want carpet

What else can I use?

Following as we’re about to do the same!
I fancied a runner but the prep needed on the stairs has put me off!

Having had a black bruise which covered my whole buttock - twice - from slipping on wooden staircases, I think they should be illegal.

A runner might be nice though.

We live in a cold country where most people don’t wear shoes indoors (at least not upstairs). As such we tend to wear socks. This means that anything other than carpet or a runner can be dangerous.

We have solid oak stairs and no one has had any issues. We don’t just wear socks though! Slippers yes. No problems. If I didn’t have thd oak treads, I would have a runner.

How about a sisal carpet? That's if you don't have cats as otherwise it'd be like a giant scratching post. 😁

A runner is good. Sisal carpet is inoffensive and hard-wearing.

Be warned if you have to sort and prep the wood out on the stairs it can start to cost £££

I think sisal makes a lot of dust and whiskers.

There’s sisal and then there’s sisal by Alternative Flooring. Some of theirs is very classy!

My cats trashed my stair carpet so I got LVT with edging . I'm happy with it
