How noisy is a roof lantern?

As it says on the title really. We have a semi open plan living room/dining room/kitchen and part of that (labelled living room) has a flat roof.

We know that we need to get a new roof at some point and as the kitchen is in the middle of the space we want to get more light to it.

An obvious answer is a roof lantern or a couple of velux roof windows but I am super nervous about noise from the rain. It's already noisy when it rains will that be amplified with a roof light.

Anyone got any advice on possible solutions?

Which way does the house face? And do you mean 'lounge'. It doesn't say living room anywhere?
A hood triple glazed one is likely to be quieter than a plastic bubble type one . If the house faces north and you are looking for morning sunshine only then maybe worth it. If it's south facing and you want extra daylight in afternoons again might be worth it .

Thanks, sorry I did mean lounge not living room on the floor plan.

The lounge faces west and has 2 large windows and a double patio doors so plenty of side light.

Hmm

We have two glass skylights in our kitchen and it’s not especially noisy when it rains

I do remember rain being really noisy on the (older) Velux windows in the bedrooms though

I don’t know why it would be different ? The kitchen ones are possibly triple glazed so maybe that’s why

Thanks, I know the newer ones are a lot better for sound but after years of having a conservatory that was like a tin roof when it rained so you couldn't hear yourself think it has made me super nervous.

That and I don't imagine it would be easy to fix if it were an issue!

We have roof lanterns in our kitchen and at the end of the lounge. Currently sitting in the lounge and it is raining pretty hard. Can't hear anything more than I would in a room with just windows.

Actually it’s raining heavily now and it is fairly noisy on the kitchen skylights tbh.

I quite like the sound and it’s not loud enough to interfere with conversation or TV but it is definitely there!

We replaced the conservatory with an extension with flat roof and 2 big roof lanterns. Not noisy at all. You’d hardly know it was raining. The old extension you could hear it was raining through 2 closed doors.

Thanks everyone, sounds like modern ones won't cause an issue. Now we just need to save for it 😂
