Mouldy laundry room

Hi

Can anyone help me ? We have an outdoor small brick room which is very mouldy. We have our washing machine in this room, and hope that in the near future we could finish renovating the room, get it painted etc..

We keep the door open when the washing is on, and remove the washing as soon as it's finished which is what google says to do.

We've tried using damp seal several times, and also water seal but neither of these options have worked.

Have you got any ideas what we can do to get this sorted asap? We have a baby due end of jan, and need it sorted so we can safely wash her clothes at home, otherwise we will need to go to a laundrette regularly for her clothes 😬

The room isn't connected to the house, but it is connected to a brick shed. It has electric, but nothing else

Any advice appreciated, thank you!

Have you tried a dehumidifier?

Could you install a window if there isn't 1 already? I'd guess lack of ventilation is probably the issue here. I'd assume you can still wash baby's clothes safely in there, despite the mould - unless you mean the washing machine is mouldy too?

Is it like a sealed room?
Fit a couple of air bricks?

It sounds like it is single skin brick built. You need to insulate it otherwise it will always be damp. Make sure that you keep some ventilation when you do this.

Can you fit the washing machine in the kitchen instead?

It's a brick 'shed' with no insulation or heating. Is water getting in from somewhere? Roof? Bad pointing?

We had our washing machine in an outhouse. It was a bit damp 8n the corners but we still used the washing machine… and dried the clothes inside. I’m not sure it’ll harm the baby…
