Can gas safe engineers service any make of boiler?

Random question, I have a slightly less mainstream make of boiler (ATAG) and I need to find someone to service it (long story, have had a disagreement with installer).

Can I get anyone who is a gas safe registered person, or do I need to get an ATAG specialist? I'm really struggling to get anyone who is a specialist near me, and wondered if anyone can do it.

Thanks, hope someone knows this!!!

Anyone can do it if they have the usual qualification. It's only if they don't have the qualification they couldn't do it, eg commercial size boilers, tumble dryers, U16 meters, UN vented cylinders would all be different.

@hannahcolobus

I’m a gas engineer and ATAG’s aren't very common, how old is it? You might be best going to them directly or seeing if they have a list of approved engineers.

Failing that as long as you tell a service engineer on the phone it’s an ATAG (you’ll be able to gauge whether they know what one is!) then you should be fine. A boiler is a boiler and a good service engineer will be able to work it out!

Thank you, that's really helpful. It's about 5 years old. I've tried going to ATAG but can't seem to manage to get someone here.

We fell out with the engineer who fitted it - he was a great engineer but seemed really disorganised and after taking the day off work sitting waiting around for him to turn up (twice!) we ended up having to get someone else in, which he took great exception to when he contacted me 5 months later to arrange a time to come.

I wonder if it's a small world among ATAG boiler people, as I just can't seem to get anyone to come.

Thanks for your help. Will make sure I let prospective engineers know it's ATAG and hopefully we can get it serviced.
