Suggestions for a steep staircase

Our 1930s ex council house has a steep staircase with short treads. It goes up to a couple of half steps before turning the corner for the last few steps. We would like to put in something with more manageable stairs, esp for our yd who has arthritis and struggles with them.
One idea is to extend the top into the bathroom area, and reduce the size of that room and then put in a small landing step before turning to continue up the last few steps. There isn't space at the bottom of the stairs to do this.
Has anyone done anything like this what sort of cost was it? The wall we would need to go through is a solid wall but not load bearing as far as I know (would check of course, and if is would add costs to it).
I'm guessing reducing the amount of steps and making the remaining ones wider wouldn't work?

Any chance you could draw a pic of the layout? It is really difficult to visualise

Can't do links, sorry.
Would an alternating tread staircase work for you? ie. deeper tread on left then right then left etc

Do you have a half landing? Instead of keeping that flat, you can have it continue as stairs as it goes around the corner. We had to do this in a previous house to get around building regs (treads can’t be too steep) and it worked very well.
