What are the officers houses like in Catterick?

My partner gets posted to Catterick on July 2022 and so we are considering selling our house and moving with him into a quarter. Does anyone know what they are like? Location, size, how much the rent is? Thanks

@Cem21 you'd probably get more answers to this in Forces Sweethearts, but we were in officers' quarters in Catterick a few years ago and they were pretty decent then. Location wise there are two patches; we were on the one off Richmond Road. The roads are Rawlinson Road, Haig Road, French Road and a few others. You can street view them. Can't answer on what the rent is now (DH has left the Army) and I think the charging system has changed. Was around £300pcm then though. Size wise depends on rank. Captains - 3 bed, Majors 4 bed, Lt Col and above usually 4/5+

If you're on Facebook, try the group Married Quarters R Us - loads of location specific info on there. There are Catterick groups too but don't know what they are anymore.

As an aside I wouldn't sell your house! Rent it out. You might want to come back to it.

You say partner ? You can only get a quarter if married or in a civil partnership. Don't sell your house, rent it out. We did this so that when DH left the Army we still had a home to move back to.

I think the rules have changed now as the Army drags itself into the 21st century. As far as I know you don't have to be married anymore (but there are conditions relating to length/commitment of relationship, can't remember what they are though!)

I wouldn't sell your house, rent it out, it'll keep you on the property ladder.

Also, you might not like army life in Catterick...

What sort of house? (Captain, Major etc?)

We had one of Major (4 bed) houses on Robertson a few years back. It was massive but very dated. The back garden was mostly mud. Driveway was long and could fit multiple cars.

It was quite a boring place to live though.

Under no circumstances sell your house. Anyone with a job with any kind of tied accommodation needs to know this.

Yeah that’s true. I lived in Catterick as a young girl so can’t really remember what it was like. Thanks for the advice

@summertimerolls it's been 10 years since we were last in quarters. You mean to tell me the Army has caught up with the rest of the world!!!!!!
