Solid wood or laminate countertop in a children's bathroom?

I can't make up my mind whether to go with a solid wood top for the sink unit or a laminate top in a bathroom that will mainly be used by my 3 ds and the occasional visitor.

I want the look of wood, but considering it's going to get wet occasionally I'm thinking laminate will last longer and need less maintenance. But will it look a bit rubbish?

Cost wise is practically the same, I'm building the vanity unit myself and it will have an inset sink.

Has anyone got any advice?

laminate
wood is a pain in wet areas, i speak from experience

Thank you! That's what I needed to hear

I think with three DC using it, it’s going to get wet more than occasionally. And once the water ingresses, wood is virtually impossibly to get back to how it was. I’d go for a wood effect laminate.

Thank you! I'll go with laminate

I would strongly recommend a stone/ composite top rather than wood or laminate. Real wood would look nicer but will go black with repeated splashes. Equally laminate will curl up and swell with repeated splashes and look really rubbish. I know cause where we moved had a laminate bathroom floor and it looked awful!

Agree with a pp. We had a counter top basin in a grown ups bathroom (careful) and had an oak counter and it marked quite badly (black marks from water). I also wouldn't get laminate. We have quartz - offcuts from a local supplier - so probably more expensive than real wood but not massively so for small pieces.
