Insurance question

We are due to exchange on a property soon. The property has had subsidence in the past. The subsidence was caused by shrinkage of the soil (clay) because of moisture extraction by a nearby tree. The house was underpinned and the tree felled. We current insurer of the property is willing to offer us building insurance covering subsidence if we move in upon completion. However, we are planning to do some works on the property and we will not be able to move in until probably summer, so the property would be unoccupied for a few months. The current insurer does not want to insure the property now because of the works and because it would be unoccupied. We have been advised to try a specialist insurer that provides insurance during building works. We are waiting for a quote from Towergate. Does anyone note any other insurers or insurer brokers that we could try? Thanks!!

You could try Avantia (Home Protect). They do insurance for building works.

I think we did ours with Hiscox.

I have tried Home Protect but the cover they offered us had lots of exclusions. I will try Hiscox. Thanks!!
