Howden's kitchens

Hello, planning on getting our kitchen redone next year. We've got a Magnet kitchen at the moment, which has been pretty good, but have a Howdens brochure and like the look of some of their kitchens. However there's no price list so I've no idea whether a Howdens kitchen will be more expensive or cheaper than a Magnet one?

Cheaper than a magnet one as a rule. Unless you get their top of the range solid wood ones. . .

Howden’s only sell to the trade, hence no prices. They’re not the cheapest but I have one of their kitchens that still looks modern and new 14 years later!

We have one, it was in place when we moved in and we hate it. They only seem to put in their own crappy brand of white goods - Lamona - which don't work very well and break easily. They only deal with trades so you can't March into a Howden's showroom and complain about anything.

Take a look at DIY Kitchens

You can have a Howdens kitchen and use other brands for appliances.

I love my howden’s kitchen and have neff appliances.

superram · 27/11/2021 04:12

I didn’t buy them from howdens.

They do have other brand options for appliances. We had a kitchen fitted and chose Bosch appliances which have been great.

Love our Howdens kitchen. It still looks really nice and has been in a few years now. Also not too expensive but you do need to go via your fitter for the costs, which is a bit of a pain.

I think the key with Howdens is to find a good fitter. We've found someone to do ours next year.

There's a FB group that is called Howdens Kitchen Complaints. It's not just complaints but also people who are happy with their kitchens. It might give you some ideas but also make sure you're prepared for any gotchas

Do you know anyone in the trade? We bought through a builder friend so was able to get Howdens quotes/discount through him and then DH fitted it. It’s been in a year so time will tell how well it’ll hold up but good so far. We also have Bosch appliances, which we bought separately.

I am having the Greenwich Gloss White kitchen fitted today in a rental flat that I own. Builder friend who has an account with Howdens is fitting it. The carcasses are pre-formed which the builder says speeds the job up and will enable him to do it over two days. He is charging day rate so this should help to keep cost down. I paid 2.5k for it which included laminate worktops a cooker hood and a Franke sink and taps. It is only the basic units in that there is no expensive items like larder pull outs or carousels etc which can push the price up. I would not use their appliances which are meant to be poor quality. But then I always buy good quality appliances like Bosch or Neff.

We had one fitted a few months ago. Design process was good, we went for top of range, fitter found it easy to fit. We got Bosch and neff appliances from them, they were helpful about a ducting issue. It looks great. Much cheaper than magnet quote, but we were so appalled by that quote we hadn’t tried to haggle or anything. It was about £10k cheaper than magnet. £23k in total.

Thank you all. That's been most helpful
