Utility Providers

Our utility provider (Orbit energy) is the latest firm to cease trading. I've been informed that we will be allocated another company to supply our gas and electricity at some point.

Has anyone else gone through this and what was the outcome?

I guess prices are going to go up Angry

I went through it with another company and got allocated to EDF.

While the switch is ongoing you can’t go elsewhere. However it will all be done for you and you need do nothing so it’s not stressful.

You just have to sit tight and wait. I’ve been through it a good few years ago too. It’s not a problem.

Martins money tips said (a couple of months ago when I was where you are) that all the cheaper fixed deals are vanishing. So I imagine they are all gone now. So it won’t make much difference to you. I couldn’t get one as I was in their system of being moved and couldn’t jump ship to a better deal.

It’s gonna be dear for us all wherever we go. Take a meter reading today to and submit to your old provider, and keep note of it as you will want to check in future that you’ve been correctly charged.

My switch is not yet complete. It is taking ages. Presumably due to the number of people in the same position.

I had this end of last year when Yorkshire Energy went under. We were automatically switched over and our credit was eventually transferred over. It took ages though. I was advised not to transfer to a new supplier until I had got my credit back.

I think the current advice is to stick to a variable tariff as it's going to be cheaper than any fixed deal right now. But yes, if you were on a fixed deal, I imagine your costs will increase.

I'm in the same boat, different supplier, we've been moved to Octopus. No idea of when we'll see a bill or our old credit. Have a horrid feeling we'll all be hit with increases in January.
