Push-up sockets vs usual double sockets

Hello, has anyone installed push up sockets in the island worktop?
How does it feel comparing to having normal double sockets on the side of the island?
My only concern is that when wiping the worktop, will have to be very careful not to get water into the push-up sockets.

My in-laws have pop-up sockets on their island. One is permanently stuck down, and is useless. The other is permanently popped up, and is an eyesore.

Personally, especially as our island is just a prep area, I like having nothing interrupting the surface. I also like the simplicity and reliability of having a standard socket on the end of the island. It doesn't spoil the appearance, because it is on the far end of the island when you enter the room, where it is much less noticeable.

Your concerns re. water getting in seem valid to me, especially if your worktops will be wood or laminate.

If you get pop-up sockets, read reviews carefully and spend enough to get reliable ones.

You are right, that is another concern, when they break, that's really annoying.

I have a pull up socket in the middle of a very long worksurface below a large window. It's used for appliances that I don't leave plugged in, and the socket strip is well protected from water by a rubber lip for wiping down the surfaces.

Is it worth cutting a hole in the quartz island? I won't leave anything plugged in it either.

This is a good point - we put the sockets on the end of pur island, but it's only 1.2m long if your island is much longer and you need a set of sockets partway along, then you may have to choose between pop-up sockets and ones permanently mounted on the top....

We were warned off them by kitchen fitter and 3 different kitchen companies we talked to. Friends have them and the got stuck after about 6 months.no idea why they are so unreliable.

We got sockets put at one end, normal ones, and a double socket put inside a cupboard for stuff that we don’t plug in often. So the door is partially closed when using that socket. Works so far.

They take up cupboard space too don't forget.

I coveted a pop-up socket for years (see also neff slide and hide, qooker tap etc), then my dad got one and I hated it.

Don't do it. Considered this for about 5 minutes when kitchen guy put hard sell on us - think it was about £300 extra. It involved spoiling a beautiful quartz top putting a permanant hole in the middle of it and using cupboard space below. So glad we didnt bother. ANYONE I have spoken to about them since say they are a fad and a pain in the bum because they break - kids writhe at them - they look ugly etc. Just put sockets on the sides and enjoy clear space. Its ample.

Parents house have them, still going strong 7 years later. Not used daily and more for
'Extra' appliances but has been super handy esp when prepping for large parties. Does take up a bit of cupboard space but not majorly. Theirs have the usb cable and when kitchen installed the usb plugs werent as popular so handy for that as can be used when the plugs are im place and not popped out.

Put off by friends who say crumbs end up getting stuck down with the sockets and then they break. Wall sockets for us

We have a large island - sockets at one end Evoline push up socket in the middle - We have a sink in the island so another side socket would have been against regs. We’ve had a couple of problems with the pop up feature that we fixed ourselves. We don’t leave any thing plugged in - in either socket. Would I get one again? Absolutely, without it I’d have to have cables coming across the hob, the function of the island would be limited without it and that would be too annoying.
