Query about a shared access - with pic

Hi all, Viewed a house this weekend. It is advertised a having a shared access. There is a fence on the property side of the drive, i.e the shared part seems to be in the neighbours driveway. When you walk down the alleyway, there are little gates to either property. I know I need to check title plans, and i have spoken to EA who said it is shared. I wondered whether is it owned by adjoining property but has a right of access? Does anyone have anything similar?

It looks like right hand house as you face them has a right of way over the footpath which belongs to left hand house.

You won’t know for certain unless you look at the title though (not just the plans).

Without looking at the plans ......... I thought it looks as though there was an alleyway between the properties level with the gap between the houses but that the house with the black concrete drive has put a fence up on its boundary so you've got that...... then the alleyway.... then the neighbour's unfenced boundary. But the title plans will show that and you can download the plans for both houses from the Land Registry very cheaply - pm me if you need help doing it.

I have an alleyway like that between my and my neighbours house - it’s shared but the neighbours can no longer access their garden via the alley since building a small extension.

What a stupid fence. The shared alley looks like it’s marked out with different flagstones. Your vendors or a previous owner have put in a horrible driveway and the stupid fence.

Looking at other nearby properties, most people put a fence on both driveways. Also looks like utility cover in shared part. I will need to investigate further. Not sure what is so horrible about the driveway, I quite liked it

I have something similar at the back of my house, the fence line follows my house wall, but I have access to an outbuilding on the neighbours' side. Not sure how/if this is marked on my deeds though

You can download the plans/deeds from the land registry for £3 to get a definitive answer about who owns the path.
