Hi we are looking at a place in East Ham near Central Park area. I have a friend that used to live round there (until about 2013) and she said the smell from Beckton Sewage works in the summer was so bad you couldn’t have windows open. I’ve been Googling and seems lots of plans to deal with it but I can’t tell if the work has been done. Can anyone confirm if that is still a problem? Also does anyone have any other feedback about living /bringing up a family in East Ham? Many thanks 🙏🏼

I live in the area you’re looking. I’ll be honest, there can be a bit of a waft on the breeze in high summer, but it depends on the wind direction, and it’s only in the evening. I was also worried before moving here so I understand your concern! Certainly hasn’t meant I have to keep windows closed, nor has it stopped me using the garden. It’s a great area; quiet, multicultural, family-oriented (some great schools), and is fast gentrifying, with new cafes and family-friendly pubs opening. I moved here due to affordability - it is a bit of a hidden gem.

It’s not a great area. Don’t know about the smell but think rapidly gentrifying is possibly a stretch.
