Arghhhhh will we ever exchange?!

Soooo stressed from waiting and hoping and waiting and hoping! We moved into our motohome, breaking the chain to avoid losing our buyer. This was on 1st September. Our conveyancer is all over it, but our vendor’s conveyancer and her vendor’s conveyancer are rubbish and unresponsive. We can’t do anything but wait! Anyone been in this situ and it eventually came good? Feels a bit hopeless at the moment 😬

We did exactly that in 2019. Unfortunately it was just before Covid so we stayed in the camper for about 7 months longer than planned. Happy days. Then ended up renting through last winter.

First purchase fell through; and two more after that before things came good. But eventually they did.

Hope all works out for you.

ALbigbump · 19/11/2021 06:25

@CatherineMaitland What a nightmare! How did you stay sane? Why did 3 purchases fall through? Would you do it again?

Massive sympathies

When we're all the offers made? And what are you waiting for?

ALbigbump · 19/11/2021 07:08

@whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy enquiries to draft contract between our vendor and us and her and her vendor. We were supposed to exchange 2 weeks ago. There are only 4 in the chain. Offer accepted in August, but our vendor and hers had been in process for a while before that. Moved out on 1st Sept which is nothing on what @CatherineMaitland endured but feels like a long time to us when we’re in limbo and there are no guarantees of getting the house

Offer accepted the beginning of August

Yep, what was supposed to be 2/3 weeks in a caravan turned into 4 months.

My vendors estate agents were actually the most helpful as they were on the back of the ES above in the chain (after the commission obviously).

Siriisatwat · 19/11/2021 07:41

Our offer was accepted in January. Still waiting.

CatherineMaitland · 19/11/2021 07:49

I don't know that I'd do it again but mainly it was just unfortunate timing with Covid, first with lockdowns, then with the housing market going crazy.

First one was a leasehold flat where the building needed a lot spending on it, second one the seller pulled out right on exchange, third one had been described as "in need of a little updating" and turned out to need gutting on survey - which was kindly received on Christmas Eve. That one eventually sold at auction for less than the current owner had paid for it.

I can laugh about it all now...

ALbigbump · 19/11/2021 07:51

@heckwreak why such a delay? @Siriisatwat what are you waiting for? I guess we have nothing to complain about compared with you lot but the main part of my anxiety relates to not knowing and the risk of losing the house

ALbigbump · 19/11/2021 07:53

@CatherineMaitland hoping to be able to look back and laugh about it soon!

OP posts:
CatherineMaitland · 19/11/2021 07:56

I hope you will too.

The uncertainty of our house-buying system is truly awful.

cakewitch · 19/11/2021 08:00

Same here. Our offer accepted late June. No chain. Still sitting here now waiting. Owners of our new house live abroad and are clearly not responding when asked questions. Our landlord has issued a section 21 which runs out 23rd December.

ALbigbump · 19/11/2021 08:04

@cakewitch what a nightmare, do you think your vendors are crap
Because they’re hoping you give up and pull out?

OP posts:
Siriisatwat · 19/11/2021 08:16

Top of the chain and the people we are buying off both fucked around for months. It took 6 weeks for the people we are buying from to “remember” if they built the extension or not.

Supposed to complete today but last night we got a call from solicitor to say they didn’t want to move today.

it’s been one long joke.

Siriisatwat · 19/11/2021 08:18

@cakewitch oh man, that’s shitty. We are renting too but luckily our landlord is great and totally understands. We’ve gone onto a monthly rolling contract, but we won’t be giving notice here until the keys for the new place are in our hand.

We were told last week that we would definitely be completing today - we were tempted to give notice but I knew it would cock up, so glad we didn’t!

ALbigbump · 19/11/2021 08:28

@Siriisatwat what arseholes, glad you’ve exchanged and tied them in though. Hopefully you’ll complete next week

OP posts:
Siriisatwat · 19/11/2021 08:35

No! We haven’t exchanged! It was supposed to happen yesterday. Found out late in the afternoon they had refused to.

ALbigbump · 19/11/2021 08:50

@Siriisatwat did they have a reason for refusing? Angry for you

OP posts:
Siriisatwat · 19/11/2021 09:30

Solicitor told us nothing. Just that they didn’t want to move tomorrow.

dinkydino123 · 19/11/2021 09:45

We are waiting for our sellers solicitor to respond to some enquiries. Radio silence for a month now. Trying not to think the worst... I couldn't cope with another sale falling through!

user1471538283 · 19/11/2021 15:34

I moved into rented and accepted a reduced offer so no chain at all. It still took 4 months! Eventually I said that we either completed the last day before Christmas or I would pull the plug. I think the issue was the buyers solicitor had taken on too much work. You will complete soon!

Amadrienia · 19/11/2021 18:59

I feel for you, OP! Truly! We've been in this house buying/selling nightmare since Sept 20. Had offer accepted back in March. Chain collapsed 3 times since. First our buyers pulled out. Then sellers onward purchase fell through. Then when we thought we were moving a month ago our 2nd buyers pulled out (overseas funds). Can't blame solicitors as was EA who messed it all up as the person in charge was leaving and couldn't give a toss so wasn't picked up for months. This last lot slotted in perfectly and we managed to save the chain. Got call today, trying to agree a moving date in 2 weeks time. Feels a bit backwards as haven't exchanged but just happy to have some dates finally. If this works out never moving again. However long you think it may take add x5 to it! Horrible vile process! We never broke the chain as was so uncertain it would ever complete.

englefia · 19/11/2021 19:58

@Siriisatwat

force an immediate exchange and set completion date 2 weeks later

heckwreak · 19/11/2021 22:53

Originally my vendors said they were chain free and were moving in with family but then they decided to purchase...

ALbigbump · 20/11/2021 15:09

@heckwreak what a pain. @amadrienia sounds like it will be soon for you, hope it all goes well after the nightmare you’ve had
