@nomoneytree the door is on the 2m side. I've attached another photo showing the door.

MrsF that is fabulous - I'd hide in there every day

@PoshWatchShitShoes I'm SO intrigued by your kitchen plan - I need a picture of what you've got so far to visualise please and thank you

@Callmejudith photo below helps show where the 2 pantries are... doors either side of the range. Just measured and they're the same size... 287x112cm.

@nomoneytree my larder is a good size for storage 95x95cm

All these photos are gorgeous, so worth all the pain!

wonkylegs · 14/01/2022 18:05

@PoshWatchShitShoes looking gorgeous
I wish when we did our kitchen we had had room for a walk in larder we ended up with very very tall larder cupboards instead which are great but not quite the same(excuse the mess our kitchen is well used and getting on a bit now)
When we have recovered and saved up a bit we are planning on a new project to replace the crappy conservatory & another room with a big living / dining kitchen space and turn the current kitchen into a large utility boot room and separate family room, that's when I may get a chance to have my walk in larder.

@PoshWatchShitShoes what are you keeping in everything? I went to Neptune today and their pantries
are a thing of beauty with one
Thing on each shelf!

I'm wondering what people keep in their large cupboards too. We are half way through fitting the kitchen and the larder cupboard is fabulous but also could become a gloryhole. I am going to have approximately 5 times more storage in the new kitchen than in my current kitchen.
@PoshWatchShitShoes
- living room looks glorious!

I err thought a glory hole was something quite differentGrin

PoshWatchShitShoes · 15/01/2022 11:42

@nomoneytree the right hand pantry will be food storage and microwave.

Left hand pantry is a freestanding freezer and storage for crockery.

Then the walk-in larder cupboard will be mops/bucket, ironing board, dyson charging, toilet rolls, cleaning products.

There's a big double larder cupboard for vases, boxes of batteries, light bulbs etc.

There's another double larder that's got shelves for 4 big laundry baskets and shelves and hanging space for shirts etc.

I'm most excited about having a single larder cupboard in the kitchen for just first aid kit 😂 Cos I've always had multiple boxes previously and could never find anything when needed and now I can have a whole cupboard for plasters 🏥

I’m also planning a walk in pantry, it will be about 1.2m x 3m. Will store all food in there, as well as lesser used stuff like baking equipment, food processor. And have the toaster, blender, panini press etc in there too. I don’t have a massive amount of kitchen cupboards.

nomoneytree · 15/01/2022 15:05

@PoshWatchShitShoes omg I think you could be my new best friend 😂😂 I so want a first aid cupboard. We are off to
Look at hmkc later. I think my kitchen might need a replan.......

whataboutbob · 15/01/2022 18:46

Went to the flat yesterday and stayed overnight to clear the junk generated kitchen fitter’s work ( 3 trips to the dump didn’t even clear it all) , and repaint the hall. It was nice to see the progress, although I realised we still have a way to go. The hall which now looks much better ( a previous refurb job when I didn’t know better saw the builder use the cheapest, nastiest paint ever). However it’s thrown in to sharp relief the ghastliness of the doors, which haven’t been changed since at least 1997. They the shiniest ever gloss which over the years has turned a kind of nicotine yellow. They’ll have to be changed at some point. Here’s a pic of the kitchen. The swimming pool blue on the units is a protective sticker, they are going to be Matt white.

GardensandGrandDesigns · 15/01/2022 18:55

Hiya, has anyone installed underfloor heating throughout their house? Just looking at our quote and says 6k but I'm guessing that is just for one floor, not whole house?

whataboutbob · 15/01/2022 18:59

I’ve only had it in a bathroom and it wasn’t that expensive , to me 6K sounds like the whole house.

MissFritton65 · 15/01/2022 19:13

@GardensandGrandDesigns we have UFH in most of our downstairs (water) and electric in the 2 bathrooms upstairs. It wasn't that expensive in fact we are having it in more rooms than planned because the plywood sheets needed to level the floors in the rooms without UFH was more expensive! This issue is more connected to the running costs rather than installation price. Water is considerably cheaper than electric.

Callmejudith · 16/01/2022 11:06

So DH has arranged with our shitty builder that they are coming tomorrow to plaster two walls and complete the guttering and coping stones outside.

Who’d like to place a bet on whether they turn up??

OP posts:
Littlemissweepy · 16/01/2022 17:31

Good luck callmejudith.

I am still trying to get construction drawings out of my architect. At least now planning permission finally submitted for the garden rooms. We now have 2 submissions in for planning. Not heard a peep yet.

Going to need a new thread soon!

whataboutbob · 16/01/2022 17:57

Good luck Judith , I have a feeling they might turn up, if for no other reason than they spoke to your husband. In my experience shoddy tradesmen often pay more attention to what the customer is saying if they happen to be male.

wonkylegs · 16/01/2022 18:19

@Callmejudith good luck fingers crossed

I've spent the day building IKEA kitchen units so the joiner can fit them this week, along with skirting. They were really easy to put together - well I found them easy but I suspect that's because I followed the instructions. DH was clueless and got told to go away and make the shelves for the store room (he has the exact same ones in the garage so has done them before)

LivingInaBuildingSite · 16/01/2022 19:42

Good luck for tomorrow @callmejudith!

Have officially moved out of our old kitchen.

Does mean the new kitchen and extension area is full of boxes and piles of stuff with no home!
Need some temp cupboards put in the back when they’ve taken them out.

One of the builders is taking the old worktop.
A friend is having the old butler sink.

Need to book oven service and clean then photograph and sell.

Callmejudith · 17/01/2022 10:25

Crikey - they turned up! Stunned!

OP posts:
wonkylegs · 17/01/2022 10:49

@Callmejudith wow! Hope they do what they are supposed to and get everything finished.
