Garden is trashed yes Grin

Slate windowsills arrived today but that's it until next week
Confirmed the decorator for the week between Christmas & New year, tiler is starting in the 3rd. The end is in sight.
I thought that was the stress levels subsiding for a bit. After an afternoon at the Panto with grandparents & kids I was feeling festive and relaxed but all interrupted by a call to say my dads house had been broken into and my dad was in hospital after a heart attack.
Trying to help sort out boarding up the house from afar now - emergency glaziers don't seem to be sticking to their advertised pledges of 24hr/365days.
FFS I really could do with a break

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 22/12/2021 17:40

@GardensandGrandDesigns

What are everyone's gardens looking like as you edge to the end of your projects? Are they trashed, do I need budget for that too?
Depends on how big your garden is. Discuss with builders how much space they REALLY need. If you give them free reign of the garden they will spread their crap all over it, you might be able to get them to agree to a smaller area roped off for them to use. If you're having a skip on your drive, get them to put boards underneath skip to protect drive. It's not just the weight of the skip, they tend to scrape and slide during changeover

Mine is pretty trashed. Wondering if my lawn will come back.
@Sewfrickinamazeballs we had the same kitchen floor! And when we took off the first layer we discovered they’d tiler exactly the same underneath!
How funny! Must have been a trend at some point. God knows why. The tiniest bit of water and they are like a skating rink. So dangerous!

So sorry to hear that. How stressful. I hope your Dad is Ok.

Where are you all getting your bathroom stuff from?

We are looking at easy bathrooms at the moment. BiL has just done his and that was from Wickes. It looks good but from experience, the quality of the big shed places isn't great after a few years, but DH wants to look at them anyway. Id love to go independent and local, but don't want to waste time looking and then get a hefty quote I can't afford.

Also, the bathroom is pretty awkward. Small steel beam above and a half sloped ceiling, DH is v.tall so this is posing a challenge to work out what goes where. Apart from the downstairs loo, it's our only bathroom so need to get it right.

Sorry to hear about your dad @wonkylegs

Hello all! Good to see all your extensions doing so well!

After some advice from you all - we FINALLY got our plans in. Spoke to architect and knowing our London borough, we went out to all our neighbours as they tend to automatically object when there are neighbour concerns.

No one had an issue so we submitted

Literally the day after we submitted, our next door neighbours have objected. Really stupid things like whether we will get a party wall and how they can't see what it would look like from their garden and whether we would make certain windows opaque or not (fgs!) and how far out the extension goes. And we put a note through their door and offered to go through the plans exactly for this reason!

Now we have a surface water drain on our drive. They have a bathroom draining into the surface water drain which they shouldn't and it floods our drive every time they use it (and all our rubbish sits on the drive).

Dp is furious as it's likely the council will now turn down the application on 6 Feb (which is how long it takes - this is the date we have been given). It will then take another 3 months to go through planning again - take into account we don't have proper heating/windows are all single glazed and the extensions are single brick and it's likely now, if we do get approval, that we won't be starting till the summer at the earliest.

Dp wants to report their incorrect use of the drain. I say keep our powder dry till we have planning and then do it if we still really want to (it is crap having someone's bath flood the front of the drive every day with bubbles and everything!). Wwyd?

We are so pissed off!

StrongArm · 22/12/2021 20:46

Also fwiw we mentioned the flooding to them already and they've told us there is nothing that can be done

Callmejudith · 22/12/2021 20:47

@Martinisarebetterdirty it’s called
Lip gloss from the valspar range at b&q but we got our local guy to mix it, it’s so subtle I love it

MissFritton65 · 22/12/2021 21:51

@Callmejudith thank you! I love it despite not having a tap yet!!!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 22/12/2021 22:28

@Callmejudith thank you - looks absolutely gorgeous

Callmejudith · 23/12/2021 12:36

The hot pink is going in to the downstairs loo - oh my god it’s amazing. My whole family hate it!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 23/12/2021 15:11

@StrongArm Just because neighbours object, that doesn't mean you won't get permission. Your Council should have clear Planning Policies (which your architect should have checked before drawing up plans).
'I don't like your extension' is not a valid objection from your neighbour - or at least it isn't one that will carry any weight. But overdevelopment or not in keeping with surrounding properties might be valid objections

Callmejudith · 23/12/2021 16:12

One coat on. I’m in love.

We also have the sofa up in the kitchen, I cried! It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid to have a sofa in the kitchen

Looks great @Callmejudith. I'm the same about having a sofa in the kitchen. So excited!!

@StrongArm fingers crossed for your planning application!!

I've never seen navy quartz @MissFritton65. It looks stunning 🤩

How's your dad doing @wonkylegs?

MissFritton65 · 23/12/2021 18:59

@Poshwatchshitshoes it's lovely. It was shipped over from the US. We had the cupboards bespoke painted to the same colour.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 23/12/2021 19:06

We had an actual plumber on site today!!! So happy

Kitchen ceiling is painted and the walls have had one coat of emulsion. They're doing lots of prep and sanding of walls today and tomorrow. Then more decorating next week.

The joiner has been busy cutting and fitting new architraves and skirting 👏

Tomorrow I'm meeting staircase guys to discuss the appalling paint job!! I've already lined up a proper decorator to repaint it in January.

Current target date is 4 January to move back in 🤞
