@sluj we had ours done afterwards. The kitchen fitter left the kickboards off and once the flooring was in they were fitted retrospectively. It was fine. In fact I think it was better because I could imagine the flooring getting damaged by the kitchen fitters if it was already there

@sluj it depends on the flooring
I prefer it under the cupboards especially if it's tile as it means that I can replace cabinets without having to replace the floor. Appliances slide in better as it's all level (and slide out again to fix leaks/plugs etc) and if there is a leak the floor is protected.
Tiles shouldn't get damaged by fitters although ours were fab and did a scratch test on a sample first to make sure it wouldn't mark when they slid the fridge into place. Porcelain is basically scratch proof which is why I chose it.
Other flooring isn't as clear cut and there are pros and cons to fitting before or after but it's definitely not a deal breaker.

Indecisivelurcher · 08/12/2021 10:40

Flooring is the thing that made our space livable, so I wasn't prepared to wait another 4 weeks to get the other things done first. I think the flooring company would have preferred to be last in.

sluj · 08/12/2021 10:50

Thanks for your prompt replies. We are having vinyl planks so the potential for damage is greater if we do it first, I think. The problem is that I have been seduced by all your photos where the units have gone in and suddenly it looks finished!!
I also have to step up my search for quartz/ granite now. I am undecided. Any recommendations for either kind or national/ North home counties companies? We are having a largish G shaped kitchen so I am expecting expense and lots of corner seams Hmm

PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 10:58

I'm glad I got our flooring done first. As mentioned by @wonkylegs, I can change the cabinets in future without redoing the floor. No damage during fitting.

I'm going to clean under the units now before the plinths get fitted 😂

I'm off to site. To see stairs and door and worktops 😬😬😬😬😬

whataboutbob · 08/12/2021 11:38

@Indecisivelurcher

Hope you've had a chilled evening after that Bob!
Thanks @Indecisivelurcher DH cooked a nursery classic supper I couldn’t have been happier! Being on this thread is supportive and I realise there probably are no perfect, stress free extensions/ renovations . @wonkylegs this sounds full on, having a 5 yo in the mix is hardcore. I hope you get a few moments peace between queries and demands to get on with some work! Fingers crossed for the deliveries @PoshWatchShitShoes. Hope today is just as productive as yesterday @MissFritton65 🤞for all.
Indecisivelurcher · 08/12/2021 11:41

@sluj mine is vinyl planks - karndean. Went in a couple of weeks ago, and kitchen went in last week, all ok. But kitchen fitter was on pain of death Grin

Indecisivelurcher · 08/12/2021 11:45

Kitchen fitter is here today putting up shelves in my living room and utility, and then he is done! Then I am just waiting for a gutter connection and a leaky rad fixing, then done done done. I will share you all some before and after photos of the whole thing this weekend, when I've done a bit of tidying.

I have found this thread really supportive and will be sad to see it go! I will be sending all the positive vibes and checking up on you all to see how you're getting on. Especially keeping an eye for photos ;)

Callmejudith · 08/12/2021 11:56

Oh wow @Indecisivelurcher I'm absolutely delighted for you that you'll be done soon!

LivingInABuildingSite · 08/12/2021 12:37

Wow @Indecisivelurcher for being so near the end!

Like kids, ours is a work in phases. This too shall pass lol. Even when this current but is done, our driveway needs doing.
Our bedroom needs serious redecorating, as does DS2’s. And the spare room. And the front room downstairs which is meant to become my escape haven, dh also wants something done to his study.

But we’ll definitely be having a huge break, not least for the money side of things to recover! But us too. So we’ll have a house of halves, loft and bathrooms and kitchen and utility all lovely and new. The rest, not so much 😂

Our flooring is going down after the kitchen, as it’ll run through into other areas that aren’t done yet and it needs to be tiled all at the same time. Will be one of the last things I think.

Been out for a run, then off to an afternoon tea thing this afternoon. Sorry for those working!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 12:48

Don't go @Indecisivelurcher!! Please stay and share regular beautiful photos and tell us that the stress is worth it 😂

PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 12:48

Staircase is being installed. Worktop is being installed.

Front door isn't fucking here!!!! 😠 Apparently it's coming "next week".

PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 13:11

It's so beautiful 🤩 Happiness is the form of kitchen cup pull 😂

Callmejudith · 08/12/2021 13:24

@PoshWatchShitShoes that's gorgeous. Shiny and lovely!

We're also in the position that having a nice new kitchen has made the rest of the house look crap.

OP posts:
PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 13:33

1 or 2???? I need to make a decision in next 2 mins before they install worktop

LivingInABuildingSite · 08/12/2021 13:57

Oh they both look good!

If you’ve ordered enough then two?

LivingInABuildingSite · 08/12/2021 13:57

Nope I’ve changed my mind, one!

wonkylegs · 08/12/2021 14:04

@PoshWatchShitShoes
It's that awkward width that could take both - if that's the widest one either works if any are wider drawers then I'd go for 2

Arghh joiner has just told me that it looks like they are 2 cladding boards short - the cladding boards that took 4wks to arrive from order

whataboutbob · 08/12/2021 14:10

I think two will be more ergonomic and make the drawers easier to open.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 14:23

I've gone for 1, which means I've wasted £180 on 6 handles that won't get used 🤦🏼‍♀️

PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 14:23

The fucking Silestone for my island is damaged!!!!!! 😠😠😠

PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 14:25

January for replacement!!!! They're refusing to fit the damaged one till then, as they're "not renting me a worktop for free".

I have no words 😭

PoshWatchShitShoes · 08/12/2021 14:25

I feel sick actually

wonkylegs · 08/12/2021 14:26

@PoshWatchShitShoes 😡
Oh no!!!
Badly or something that can be finished out by a skilled person?

wonkylegs · 08/12/2021 14:27

@PoshWatchShitShoes what company?
