But at least both kids are at school today!

Callmejudith · 01/12/2021 11:49

Oh crumbs @Indecisivelurcher that does not sound fun.

I had a very exciting delivery of 30 cans of Diet Coke. I've never ever had the cupboard space to store them before lol

LivingInABuildingSite · 01/12/2021 13:29

@Callmejudith - had to lol a little at that but also, yey! What else can you start buying now you have more storage?
I’m sure I will buy more but I mostly want to be able to easily see what I have - hopefully in my pantry 🤞

@Indecisivelurcher - that sounds super stressful! At least the kids are out!

Had the carpenter round for ideas about the ‘garage’ type door for the side. Has to look garage-y but actually be secure and solid and thermal. He got some ideas I like so hopefully it’ll work out.
He’s also going to make me some extra skirting to match the original for various places.
And, a big job I’d almost forgotten about - my original sash stained glass window that goes halfway up the stairs. It’s been out of the hole and boxed up at the builders yard for ages. They need to see if they can shrink the window without losing any glass.

Kitchen fitting starts tomorrow, hopefully lots done in 2 days so we can admire it all weekend 😂

Meanwhile, the waterproof paint is going on, it stinks! Whole house smells of strong paint. Will have to open some windows 🥶

Callmejudith · 01/12/2021 17:38

Wren confirmed we don’t have to make our first payment until January whoop!

Positive day here! Tilers have started laying the tiles in kitchen, utility, pantry and my office. Our plumber had a decorator lined up for another job but due to supply issues it's not ready to decorate so he's starting with us on Monday ready for the kitchen to be fitted on Tuesday.

Callmejudith · 01/12/2021 21:58

Good stuff MrsF! I’m intrigued with office tiles - is that on the floor?

OP posts:
MissFritton65 · 01/12/2021 22:16

@Callmejudith yes we are having the Rak tiles on the floor in kitchen, utility, pantry, downstairs loo, my office and the wrap around patio so when the doors are open it looks like 1 continuous space. 160 sq metres.

MissFritton65 · 01/12/2021 22:22

My office is the room on the left as you look. There will be a 3m wide patio running the full width of the house. The rubble is going to used for the hard core hence why it's still there.

Looks like a lovely building MissF. I like the bricks.

Callmejudith · 02/12/2021 07:03

What a fabulous office! Love it

Morning all - I went to the office yesterday and then out dancing!! My feet are sore and I feel spaced, but I didn't think about my building site for at least 10 hours 😂👏

I need to get over there soon to see what happened yesterday. Hopefully lots!!!

That looks amazing already @MissFritton65. Love the windows and doors!

I wanted to find similar garage-y doors @LivingInABuildingSite. Will need to get quotes when we've recovered from the stress of getting everyone off site before Christmas.

Callmejudith · 02/12/2021 15:44

Whoop for dancing @PoshWatchShitShoes I love a good boogie

OP posts:
Indecisivelurcher · 02/12/2021 16:17

Wow feels like a bloody long time since I've been dancing - jealous!

Best thing here is patio layer who looks like a better Ewan McGregor, and is very nice to boot. Even my kitchen fitter has a man crush.

MissFritton65 · 02/12/2021 16:52

I'm half way to getting my own dance floor!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 02/12/2021 16:53

@Indecisivelurcher You've got better than Ewan??! Amazing and much better than an office disco, Please take of pic of the slabs with him in the background!!

Ive been to site 4 times today. Picasso is really very good at kitchen painting, so we'll forgive his prima ballerina-ness 😂 The French doors he said couldn't be fitted till he'd finished, are actually being fitted today!! Builder struck a deal where they've hermetically sealed half the room.

Decorators have been busy. I saw the paint colour I chose for my bathroom wall and freaked out. Never skip on samples, such a stupid expensive mistake!! I've now rushed to a shop and swapped for something else, which I hope I like.

Builder has advised that we can move back in on 20th. Means a week with MIL/FIL once we vacate Airbnb. At least they've got a house decorated for Christmas. I'm really sad about not having decorations up at the mo. I LOVE Christmas and this year feels ruined. First world problem 🤦🏼‍♀️ Is it even worth putting up the tree on 21st??! I know the answer is yes, but grrrrrrr to delays.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 02/12/2021 16:54

Yay @MissFritton65 👏

PoshWatchShitShoes · 02/12/2021 16:55

Lol at man crush. My crowd are all lovely but no eye candy really. Saying that there is a young (far too young for me!,) lad that sometimes comes to help at random times, he’s not bad. Apart from feeling like his mother 😱😂

I’m off out tomorrow for a boozy lunch, that’s as lively as I get atm.

Need it after today, sigh, the while step forward/backward thing. Kitchen arrived no probs on Tuesday. Last painting yesterday all good.
2 guys starting today on the kitchen jigsaw.

It’s not tall enough. I knew the kitchen guy wasn’t listening when I said I wanted it as near the ceiling as poss. I didn’t want what I already have which is a huge dust/crap collecting area.

Hers put standard stuff in which would have left a 40cm gap at the top which is just too big to box in.

Anyway, after a lot of discussion and toing and froing. And phone calls to the main designer guy who of course is away on holiday this week but kudos to him he did get on the phone a lot today!
He’s ordering some shorter height cupboards to add on top. Should leave only about 4cms gap instead. Which they can box in easily.

Then it’s all about the end panels as Howdens don’t make them taller than 230cms. I need about 280. So can either have a line about 50cms down or up from one end or the other.
But it’s a line I’ll have to live with and not get annoyed about.
Or, I can find tomorrow a supplier that makes longer ones. That will match. And that I can get tomorrow because of course that’s the end the fitters want to start at!

DC swimming cancelled, how early can I open the Gin?!

MissFritton65 · 02/12/2021 16:58

@PoshWatchShitShoes looking great!

Indecisivelurcher · 02/12/2021 16:59

I tried for a photo out of upstairs window but he spotted me and moved out of the way 😂

Apparently he gets the Ewan thing all the time 😂😂

LivingInABuildingSite · 02/12/2021 16:59

Xpost.

@PoshWatchShitShoes looking fab!

@MissFritton65 - also looking fab, dance floor, love it!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 02/12/2021 17:40

Your kitchen looks so good!
GardensandGrandDesigns · 02/12/2021 17:44

We've had second and third builders round this week to quote. First one quoted 170k so will be interesting to see if any of the others are wildly different.

MissFritton65 · 02/12/2021 17:55

@LivingInABuildingSite and @PoshWatchShitShoes thank you! We are due to move back in tomorrow after 9 moves .....tonight we are in a gorgeous restaurant with rooms which was booked months ago for DH birthday. The champagne is open and the bath on the mezzanine floor is beckoning.....who needs a tiler like Ewan?!?

Notyetthere · 02/12/2021 18:34

I keep losing track. Reading through and catching up with everyone's journey.

Plastering should have been completed in the loft and the downstairs rooms associated with it but our plasterer isn't happy with double height wall. He says he can see it's not straight but dh, I, carpenter, electrician and snybody that I can stop all think it's straight. We can't see the kink. He is coming back on Saturday to re-do it. It will take him all day. We are at the point where we were keen to start painting particularly that wall before the staircase is installed end of next week so it will be a bit of a rush.

Electrician is pretty much done 2nd fix apart from the big pendant lights over the stairs and bathroom walls.

We are definitely at the several steps forward stages which I can't complain about. Even with the dust everywhere. I never quite appreciated how dusty plastering makes everything.

Off now to catch up some more on others journeys to see how you are all doing.
