Grey cabinets and boho theme?

This sounds very first world problem-y but here goes. My husband and I are soon to move into our first home, a new build 3 bed flat.

I love home decor and was hoping to decorate using a boho and scandi theme as inspiration. Our flat however comes with dark-ish flat grey kitchen cabinets, dull grey worktops and black metal handles. It is open plan with the living area but doesn't fit the theme I had in mind.

I can change the handles but I'm not sure what colour drawer pulls would go with a cool grey colour, particularly a cabinet that's flat and has no panels. I'm scared to try to DIY and paint cabinets that are brand new!

Will brass handles go with cool grey? Will it look out of place with the boho theme?

I wouldn't choose brass. Most colours go with grey though...it's a good base to begin with.

The reason I wouldn't choose brass is that it's too warm and too traditional.

Can you share a photo of them?

So I've just taken a still from a video I took, this is how it looks. What do you think? X

The units and handles are quite modern.
Perhaps think about replacing with wooden handles or bronze?
And adding some natural accessories, eg wooden boards/mats/plants to make it a bit cosier?
Could you change the cooker hood to one which is less modern?

I think if you paint the walls it will bring it more in line with your preferences - much more than changing the handles IMO

Changing bar handles is a pain as you need to find ones the same size so the two holes will line up

Colours that would go well

  • dusty pink
  • mint green
  • ochre/mustard yellow
  • possibly a rich navy
  • white

Imagine the room with these colours on the walls and some accessories - plants, wooden bowls, ceramics etc - and it will start to look a lot more scandi or boho

If you are handy with DIY you could build a wrap around cover for the extractor which you can then tile or paint to make a feature and make it less modern.
