Long story short.
House purchase fell through in august when vendor pulled out. Found another house at end of august and had offer accepted.
The house was being let out to council tenants. Their notice was given and they agreed to leave Nov 15th.

We were due to exchange last Friday and I found out last Monday that they are refusing to leave and the council have said that they are going to be staying their until at least January. They have gone on a housing waiting list.
I've already lost £7.5K on my early repayment charge from my previous house (messy divorce). That expires on 21st November. I've got a new mortgage offer.

Problem is. I've been living with my parents since June with my 3 children. It's quite a toxic environment. They really don't want me here but everytime I try to leave they tell me I'm stupid for wasting money renting. I also have a dog so I've been seeing that most renters don't allow pets.

Do I pull out of the purchase and go into rented? I've seen something else that I like but what if that doesn't work out either. I've been burned so many times now. I'm terrified.

This situation really sucks OP, we had a similar one last year when we were trying to buy. It was a privately rented house where the tenants said they would move out in June and mid way through the buying process they said they weren't going anywhere until the council housed them elsewhere. We were advised by our solicitor and everyone we spoke to to run a mile! Also it was pointed out to us that the tenants probably wouldn't look after the house and may cause damage that we then have to fix.

So sadly I would advise you to pull out as they could be there for a long time before they are re-housed. We did have a happy ending though and found another house that we moved into a few weeks ago, so I wish you the same good luck that we ended up having :)
