Hi all,

Friends of mine (who are not on Mumsnet) are looking to relocate in the next couple of years and would like some location ideas.

Location requirements are:

  • Preferably South of London but reasonably flexible (family are Canterbury and Crawley)
  • nice village feel
  • small amount of shops
  • country pubs
  • family friendly cricket club
  • good curry house
  • ideally not too far from a station to get to london once or twice a week
  • decent schools

Property requirements will be:

  • 3/4 bedrooms
  • decent size garden for children to play in
  • budget approx 550-650 (current estimate)

Any suggestions would be welcome and appreciated, thanks! Smile

Horsham. It's lovely

Maybe somewhere around Sevenoaks although the budget would be too tight for Sevenoaks itself.

Outskirts of Tunbridge Wells/Tonbridge or Hildenborough.

Thank you both, will pass on the suggestions

Kings Hill (between West Malling and Mereworth in Kent) has a lovely cricket club in the centre. It's a big neighbourhood of new-ish builds though, so I'm not sure if it's what your friends are looking for. We have family there with two young children who love it.

Oxted perhaps. Village feel although it’s a town, plenty of pubs within reach, easy journey to London.

Hartley wintney, although it’s more south west than south. Lovely cricket pitch in the middle. Proper village feel although it’s a few miles to a train station.

Hart council are pushing to create a massive "Shapley Garden Village" next to Hartley Wintney, so I don't think it will retain its rural village feel if it goes ahead as it will be part of a massive conurbation between from Fleet to Hook/Odiham

Literally almost every village around Canterbury has a great cricket club and gorgeous pubs, but for our money (and almost identical criteria) we chose Folkestone. Absolutely love it. The cricket facilities are fantastic and there are tonnes of amazing walks with lovely pubs at the end of them…
