Hi all looking for a bit of advise.
I live in a 3 bedroom maisonette with 1 child and i am looking to downsize to a two bedroom in my local area as I care for family. I have found a family who are eager to swap with me as they are currently a family of 4 with a baby on the way. We are both with the same council and have both put in our forms for a mutual exchange and recieved confirmation of this. We both have clear rent accounts and there is no damage to either home, the other lady is just waiting on her kitchen floor to be repaired. However the other party have been contacted to have there gas/electric safety checks and for an inspector to come out to check the home but I haven't been contacted at all. Should I be worried? Or maybe call up the housing officer dealing with our application to find out what's going on? I don't want to be one of those people who are constantly calling and being impatient but the wait is killing me and I keep thinking that maybe this exchange won't go through which both of us really want.

@MommaBear13 Nothing to worry about, contact your Housing Officer for an update. Normally the process should be completed within 42 days of submitting your application for exchange but check this with your Housing Officer.

@Peristress
Thanks so much, I bit the bullet and called the housing officer and I'm so glad I did. I found out that they had given out the wrong contact number for myself so no one was able to call and arrange the appointments. It's all sorted now and I will have all the checks completed by next week so hopefully we should have a decision very soon as the other family have had their checks completed.

Your welcome, good to hear its all now moving along for you. Shouldn't really take too long after the checks have been completed for the assignment of tenancy to be arranged.

Hello
I've applied to do a mutual exchange as I need to downsize , I have a debt relief order in place with 6 months left to run , would the housing association refuse on these grounds
Thanks

@Madrose1977 It really depends on what checks the HA will carryout. They may refuse if you have rent arrears. They will request a tenancy report.
So make sure your rent account is up to date first before you proceed with an exchange.
