Just wondered if anyone had ever done this and if so what their experiences were? Thanks.

Do you have a massive driveway? Because add in a skip plus building materials and scaffolding then .... And that's without parking.

I haven't actually done this myself but plenty of people do. It's that or a hotel/Airbnb really.

Thanks for your replies.

I think its a great idea to escape the dust etc

I know a coupe who had 3 x dc and she was pregnant! They were extending their bungalow!

I think I'd be realistic about how you'd manage. Do you have children? We stayed in the house but had 4 people in one small bedroom (1 in a box room), and 5 of us in a small lounge downstairs which was also makeshift kitchen. We did have the bathroom for most of it. It was hard, everything was stressful, little space for homework / laundry / just having space. Of course everything takes longer than you'd expect so it wasn't 6 months, closer to 12 months. It might be OK in summer if you have outdoor space but guessing it would be miserable and damp through winter.

You might want to check with the council if this is even allowed first?

BrightGoldenHazeintheMeadow · 10/11/2021 21:21

Thanks everyone. I assumed we would be allowed to park the caravan on our own drive- will need to check this.

Check with your LA and check your missives (or whatever the equivalent is where you are) - ours prohibit caravans and motor homes on our driveways. Whether anyone would actually pursue the latter through the courts is debatable, but they might.

xksismybestletter · 10/11/2021 21:48

we are planning to store our caravan on our driveway permanently. It is not likely there will be a covenant. I am toying with us staying in there for renovations

RacketeerRalph · 10/11/2021 23:04

I did it as a kid and it's given me a life long hatred of caravans Grin can't abide the things now.

We chose to move upstairs instead (and then downstairs when we do upstairs).

Will there be an awning, a shed, quiet outside seating? If it’s just the caravan with scaffolding one side and disgruntled neighbours the other it might not be relaxing…

BrightGoldenHazeintheMeadow · 12/11/2021 10:41

Thanks everyone.
