Moving company London to West Yorkshire

We are leaving SE London after 16 years and moving to my home county, specifically Ilkley in West Yorkshire. Can anyone recommend a good removal company? We are in a small 2 bed flat and don’t have tons of stuff and trying to do it at a reasonable cost. The large firms appear to be astronomical!

Sorry no but congratulations, it’s lovely up here

We did a similar move a few weeks ago and went with the cheaper quote (because they offered Covid cancellation cover and the other two didn't). They were about £800 cheaper than the other two quotes. We had used one of the other companies before and been very happy with them.

Big mistake, the cheaper company were dreadful - slapdash, rushed the job, very poor communication (they didn't listen to what we said so we now have furniture in wrong rooms), tried to charge us £450 extra at the last minute. We'd booked the packing service and they were basically throwing things into boxes and labelling them 'Misc'. It's taken a huge amount of extra time to sort it all out and was very stressful. Really regret not going with the more expensive company.

I moved up from London to West Yorkshire and used a company called Howarths in Todmorden. They were excellent and I've used them on 3 moves since and on my parents house clearance.

@Hoppinggreen I am so excited! Complete lifestyle change. I know ilkley quite well and have always wanted to live there so this is a dream come true.

@RidingMyBike thanks for that good advice and sorry you had such a rubbish experience. Not what you need during an already stressful situation

@harriethoyle thank you will check them out

Get as much in writing as you can. Ours supplied a move plan but omitted the detail that when they said they'd start at 8am on the third day they meant up north at 8am (ie they left London at 3am) which we thought meant leave depot at 8am. We'd arranged to be at new house by 10.30am...

Yorkshire relocation help needed!

Hello!

So, I know this is a huge question but I really need some advice to help us narrow down our search.

My husband has been offered a relocation with work that see his role covering projects (some times just 1 day jobs and other times a few days away from home at time) spanning across the North West, North East, Yorkshire and possibly (and only occasionally) north Wales and Scotland.

The huge question is where on earth do we base ourselves? My job is predominantly based from home with the need to travel in to London a couple of times a month. So that’s something for us to consider as well.

We thought somewhere on the M62 corridor would be work but after lots of ‘googling’ it sounds like it’s an absolute nightmare to commute across. We also thought Wakefield/
Pontefract would also work but again, having a had a Google and a look at some old posts on here, it doesn’t seem many people have much positive to say about those area. Eeekk!

So, as I said at the beginning, huge question, haha …. But if you were us so to speak, where would you focus your search? We are really flexible and will consider anywhere suggested that would suit.

I’m googled out and feeling quite overwhelmed by it all!

Help! 😊 x

M62 corridor sounds sensible. Somewhere around junction 26/27 gets you good value for money and you’d be in the centre of all the major cities. All the Kirklees or South Leeds towns near the motorways are a good place to search.
