Strange question but has anyone applied to buy land at the side of their home from the council? It is an unused grassed area and would be perfect parking space if feasible.

Is it Highways Authority land? If it’s next to a road it could be. Therefore contact the Highways Department of your county council or equivalent. It might be needed as a vision splay but if it’s waste land, with no obvious use, ask for property services.
