Just finalising colours for our kitchen after a last minute change. We’re going with DIY kitchens painted kitchen and think we’re going to have the island in f&b railings and the surrounding units in Denimes. It’s quite a dark combination but it’s a south west facing living dining room with large sliding doors and velux windows. Phoned farrow and ball and they said this combination would work in terms of colour tones. We’re thinking brass coloured handles and whitish worktops. I do wonder if it will date quickly but I also do think railings is a lovely colour! Thoughts would be good!

When you say the units will be denimes, presumably you mean www.farrow-ball.com/paint-colours/de-nimes ?

All sounds lovely to me!

What colour will the walls and floor be? We had a kitchen with dark blue units and grey/white walls, and found it all looked a bit cold until the warmer tones of the wood effect floor were added to the mix!

Also, what colour will the actual units (not the doors, the carcasses behind the doors) be? Some kitchen suppliers limit you to white but with DIY you can have various neutrals, greys, oak effect etc. You won't see too much of this material when the doors are closed, but it's worth keeping the contrast with the dark units down so any slivers of the units that show are less glaringly obvious.

De Nimes is lovely, we have some of our (diykitchens) units painted in it 😊 Paired with diykitchens alabaster for the rest, pale porcelain tiles and white quartz worktop. Railings/de Nimes combo would also look fab 🤩

I can’t get on board with a railings and de nimes combo I’m afraid. Just can’t picture it. Doesn’t mean it won’t look great, but we had a kitchen once where the units and island were different colours but similar hue, and the light made it so that they looked like they were actually the same colour, but the island was being influenced by the light iyswim. It wasn’t at all obvious that they were so different.

We've gone for lower units in Railings, with wall and tall units in Ammonite
Island is also Ammonite. Thinking of pbw for the walls.

I do @CasperGutman and thank you! Feel quite excited about it now it might be happening and there’s some positive responses. Thanks for the great tip about the colours inside the cabinets!

Thanks @SparkleMonster! Really useful to hear from someone with same colour! Is it a shaker kitchen? What colour are the insides of the cupboards? We’re just trying to order now and de-Nimes isn’t an option on the bespoke list. Arggg! How did you order it?

@HalloweenScrooge… arg this is a good point. We’ve agonised over the colours for ages but this is definitely something to bear in mind

Nothing constructive to add but absolutely love that combination! Going to look at that for ours. Grin

Yes, shaker style with alabaster carcase (not seen when drawers/cupboards are closed).
Go to configure unit and then I added F&Bno.299 (or something like that!) to each bespoke unit/door/trim that needed it in the box shown on the pic 😊

Excellent, thanks @SparkleMonster! We will try that. Sounds like you’re v pleased with kitchen. What colour are your door handles?

Silver bars 😊 and yes, we're very pleased with it!

NotMyCat · 06/11/2021 22:38

I've picked denimes for my units as having them sprayed! I have silver bar handles

if you mean the cabinets (not the doors and decor panels) then I've found dark interiors rather tiresome. It can be difficult to see the stuff at the back and read labels. not such a problem with wall cabs that are shallow, but especially awkward with floor cabs like the one under the sink.
