Moving costs

Hi,
Does anyone know what the average moving costs are if I hire a moving firm to do it (same town)?? I’ll need help to move stuff as I’m on my own.

It really depends on how much stuff you are moving, and whereabouts you live. But as an example I'm paying just under £2k incl Vat to move not very far, but it will need three big vans and five movers. Most moves will be less than that I think. Also can you zoom with movers and you can show them all your stuff and then they send a quote based on that, which means less chance of things going wrong on the day if you've forgotten to mention a big piece of furniture they hadn't factored in.

Depends on how much stuff, them packing or you packing, ease of access to both properties and the date you plan to move.

As others have said it depends on your contents.

In my experience of arranging mother in law's recent move basic 'man with van' is around £50 an hour with two men and a Luton van - I would have thought they whould be able to shift a full house contents in maybe four or five trips in the same town in a day. That is with all the contents all boxed and ready to go and little help at the other end beyone putting in to different rooms.

We moved 6-weeks ago, had four surveys / prices to check the market and what would be done for the money. Distance was 50-miles and apart from covering furniture etc there was no packing as we had already done it (all the companies were very impressed with the quality of my packing as apparently some peoples idea is stuffing everything into bin-bags!).
The company we went with was a local one, supplied 4-men and used a 7.5T lorry & large Luton van, that cost £1100 inc VAT.
Dearest was Pickfords at £2.2K inc VAT, they wanted to use a HGV (which may have caused access / parking issues) and due to tacho restrictions wanted to pick up the contents one day, store overnight and then take to new address the following day. This wasn't practical so it wasn't just the price that pushed us towards an independent.
All had the same insurance cover.
