We've had a quote for a level 2 survey (house we're buying is less than 20 years old) and it's £840! Is that standard? Google told me to expect between £4-500.

It really depends on the type of house, and size. We paid £2500 for a level 3, but there were a lot more expensive quotes.

I was quoted £575+VAT for a level2 (so £690 in total). I went for the next level in the end for £715.

We got quotes from £300 to £3000+vat. All claiming to offer the same service.

I've just paid £845 on total for a Homebuyers Survey, which I believe is the Level 2 report. It was done by Countrywide on a London (Zone 4) property.

If it's any consolation I was also shocked at the price, as I thought it would be just under £500. However, in the grand scheme of property buying, it's not a huge amount of money, and could save you thousands!

Depends where you are. I've had quotes in the £500-£750 range over the last couple years in SE (not London).

Also - we moved in June and over the April-June period places were charging more as they were so busy, people were trying to move before SDLT deadline etc - I don't know if people have dropped prices since then for surveys (I assume not)!

That (inc vat) was around what I paid in August. It was 1300 for full structural and to be honest I got just as much info from the Homebuyers report (had two full Structurals and one homebuyers in my pursuit of a new property this summer).

I have just paid 565 inc vat for a level 3 full survey in NW.
