Forgot to update electoral roll - mortgage application

First of all, I know I'm an idiot. We moved out of my parents house where we were on the electoral roll to rented accommodation and just completely forgot to update it until last week.

We have seen a house we would like to buy which we can easily afford deposit and earning wise and have excellent credit scores. Is the electoral roll issue going to be a big no no for getting a mortgage approved?

I've seen it now won't update on a credit file before January due to the time of year :(

We (think) we were declined by our lender's computer system for additional borrowing on our mortgage as the Electoral Roll hadn't been updated to our new address (we applied only 2 months after moving in). We updated everything & then argued it with the advisor as we had an excellent credit history & never been turned down for anything. He put it through to the underwriters as an exception case which they manually approved. We didn't need the extra loan in the end so the application was never completed.

Hopefully that's a glimmer of hope for us!

We sold our house then moved in with in laws and I forgot about the electoral roll. We found a property a few weeks after living here and applied and had our mortgage approved. I then remembered about the electoral roll and signed up which was about a month after we had our official mortgage offer.

Thanks so much, I wonder if they will be as forgiving for quite a few months!

we had a similar issue and found out which credit reference agency our mortgage lender is using. In our case it was Equifax and we were able to put a notice of correction on our profiles.

I believe that the electoral roll is updated every couple of month, so it depends at which point in the cycle you have registered and whether you have missed the cut off for the next update.

Do you have a mortgage broker? I’m not on the roll for citizenship reasons but have never had an issue getting a mortgage.

I think it is easy to sign up for electoral roll - start with the council and then they may give you advice to just google electoral roll - I think it will not be difficult - best of luck but that's where I would go - I bet you can do this quickly - probably www.gov.uk . / something / there will be a way you can do this.

Thanks all, I signed up a couple of weeks ago but the council have said we won't be registered at their end until the 1st December. Mortgage application going through in a couple of weeks. I'll update you all. At least it's not a dream house if it does cause problems. Thanks for the support, I feel like there is a chance it could be ok.
