wise mumsnetters
my cylinder hoover (miele blizzard) stinks of vomit when switched on despite never being used to hoover up vomit!

have washed it all out including the filter but the smell is awful and seems to cling to the air. hhave tried essential oil but that makes the smell worse.
help!!!

Put down some carpet shampoo (the dry stuff I forgot the name) and hoover that up, always leaves my hoover smelling fresh.

I use Vac freshener discs, they're small card discs impregnated with smell. Just stick one or a half in the dust bag, makes everything smell nice. Look on Amazon or ebay.

You can buy scent bags to put in the cylinder - we use them for our pongy Henry and they sort the problem.

can you post a pic of your vac?

we've had Miele and they have three filters. I have a good supply of spares and used to change them with every bag when there was a dog in the house. Some types can be washed and re-used.

Very occasionally, when changing the bag and filters, I use a small paintbrush and a damp sponge with WUL to clean the inside of the casing.

The might also be traces of some unpleasant grime in the hose or tubes. You can clean them (if plain plastic) by immersing in hot water with detergent.

Hoover up some lenor unstoppables.

PigletJohn · 31/10/2021 14:18

ah, I see yours is bagless with two filters.

not sure if you can change or wash them.

PigletJohn · 31/10/2021 14:22

this one says you can wash the pleated filter

PigletJohn · 31/10/2021 14:33

just occurred to me

start it up with no tubes or hose attached. Does it still smell?

If yes, the source is in the vac

if not, must be in the tubes, hose or head.

@PigletJohn thank you
i cleaned the concertina filter a few weeks ago but now have the hose soaking in the bath
lots of nasty black grime coming out, some in small chunks..eek!!
