New EA trick?

I've just been copied (cc'd, not bc'd) into an email asking for best and final offers for a property I viewed last weekend.

I've already told the EA I wasn't interested in making an offer earlier in the week, so no reason to include me.

Am I being unreasonable to think they've done this to make it look like there are 20+ interested parties in making best and final to create a bidding war???

I've already replied and reminded them I'm not interested, and asked them not to add me to group emails again as I haven't consented to my information being shared like this, but do you think this was a mistake or a trick?

I'd complain that they shared your email address without your permission

HouseIsOnFire · 27/10/2021 16:12

Yeah, I have done (albeit politely because I do eventually want to find a house!)

Doubly irked because my email is the only one on the list which contains first and last name!

You mean everyone could see you address or just ‘+19’? Your agrees - a serious data breach and I’d make an immediate complaint ask for their data compliance officer.
+19 - really shady crap behaviour. I’d also complain about use of you to bolster their profile.

HeronLanyon · 27/10/2021 16:13

Oh op that is serious and they need to resolve it with you.

FATEdestiny · 27/10/2021 16:13

That is a significant and serious breach of Data Protection.

Bells3032 · 27/10/2021 16:15

that's a serious data breach. i would make a complaint. your email should not have been shared with the vendor or other buyers. and its counter productive too as someone wanting to buy the house could try and intimidate you

LCDP · 27/10/2021 16:22

You can make a complaint to the information commissioner.

HouseIsOnFire · 27/10/2021 16:27

Nope, can see everyone's email! Not just a number!

Kicking myself slightly for not hitting reply all and saying they've obviously included people not making offers here....

Resend the email replying all, stating your complaint so all can see, and informing them that you will be putting in a complaint to the ICO re GDPR, and perhaps the EA ombudsman, if such a thing exists. Shady behaviour indeed

BrilliantBulb · 27/10/2021 16:40

Resend it ‘reply all’!

ZenNudist · 27/10/2021 16:42

Definitely reply all (just resend your reply) and complain about GDPR breach.

PhilInt · 28/10/2021 15:37

I'd definitely reply all and find a way to weave in that you never had any intention of making an offer. But I'm afraid I'd chicken out of a confrontation or reporting the estate agent. As much as I hate them, it's really not worth pissing them off when they have the ear of the vendor's you may wish to purchase from at some point.

Rollercoaster1920 · 28/10/2021 16:34

If you reply all you are also breaching data protection. So don't.

HeronLanyon · 28/10/2021 17:13

Well I think I meant ‘reply all’ BCC just as the estate agent should have done in the first place.
