Hi,

Anyone got any experience of getting a mortgage as a student? I’m a teacher on main pay scale and husband is a student nurse. Gets an nhs bursary.

Any tips or advice welcome. Also happy to accept we need to stay out for now!
Thank you! 😊

I got a mortgage on my own with a student stipend (bursary) combined with small amount of self employed income so you should be fine. Some places won't accept the bursary though so you will need to call around or ask a broker.

Building Societies do accept bursaries but not all of them do. I would just approach a mortgage broker. One told me once anybody can get a mortgage. That was probably a bit optimistic. Its a difficult time as nobody knows what house prices are going to do over the next one or two years. I think the market got overheated but thats just my opinion.

We got a mortgage with natwest on my teacher training bursary when DP was working for the NHS. We spoke with fox davidson brokers who cost a lot but made it very easy for us!
