Changing radiators, can't find the right size. Am I missing something?!

My rads are fine and functional but I hate the appearance of them, and want to change them for something like this (see pic)

I've watched YouTube vids, scoured forums, measured and re-measured...I can't understand why I can't find a traditional equivalent for my standard 1000mm radiators. The closest I can find is a 904mm width.

Honestly I feel stupid and my head hurts.

Do I need to get a professional in to faff with the pipes?

are the pipes rising through a concete floor?

if not you can move them.

If yes, you can move them with extra difficulty and cost.

Just have an elbow in the feed pipe to fit?

Just to say we've gradually replaced all the radiators in our house with ones similar to what you've linked to and the house is so much warmer. We had a plumber move the pipes in a few places but it was relatively easy.

We have changed all our rads to traditional ‘school’ ones....none of them are the same size as the previous one....some have needed pipes moving....others have just needed an elbow....not been a problem....obviously you have to pay extra

Got a new radiator last week. It was wider than the last one so plumber added elbows in the pipes as mentioned above.

Thanks all 🙏
@dappledthings that looks very neat!

A recommended plumber has quoted £600 (labour only) for 3 rads. Pipework will be showing on 2 of them that sit on engineered wood flooring that I'd rather not mess with.

What a hoopla though.

Might just stick with my ugly ones 😂

Bestheating.com has a two column Victorian style radiator 101cm wide.

Zinnia · 29/10/2021 08:51

Avoca do a 1042 width in lots of their column rads. Highly recommend them - Screwfix have the biggest selection online.

GoodnightGrandma · 29/10/2021 08:53

We had this recently. It’s very frustrating.

This company do a “build your own” radiator, which looks similar to your picture.

That way you can choose height and width.

Kitkat151 · 29/10/2021 14:16

Here’s ours with an elbow each side....it was much easier than moving pipes

I've just bought those radiators from Best Heating. The look lovely. None of the radiators match the old panel rad sizes, I looked everywhere!! So we've had to move all of the pipes and then I've got a flooring guy coming to repair the wood flooring and fit new carpet. Massive amount of work, but hoping they'll look nicer and also be warmer as a PP mentioned.
