Credit checks with new mortgage pending

I have had an offer accepted on a new property, due to move in January, and new mortgage approved.

I desperately need a new mobile phone and I am due an upgrade. I've had the same mobile account for over 20 years.

How will a credit check at this stage affect my mortgage process?

Thanks.

Ask your conveyancing solicitor, they generally advise that in a certain window you do not enter into any new credit agreements.

Have you looked at buying the phone outright? It is usually quite a bit cheaper than adding the cost of the phone onto a new contract.

Thanks @MatildaIThink

I've emailed my mortgage advisor this morning.

I will have a look at buying outright, but I'm
also trying to save every penny for the move.

I was advised not too but when I went in to set up my new broadband they credit checked me before I could stop them 😵‍💫 all was fine but it's not advised!

I'm in the same boat @sadsofa

Tumble dryer packed up yesterday. I would normally put a new one on a credit card or spread the cost 0% and pay it off over a few months as I don't have £300 spare for a decent one (especially as it's half term).

I'm not touching any credit until everything has gone through just in case. Our mortgage isn't actually approved yet though, the lender is still picking through everything so I don't want to risk it.

Surely if yours is approved already then the credit checks have already been done?

They sometimes do another credit check just before they release the funds.

@TomRipley as @GreenLunchBox says, I'm aware they may credit check me just before releasing funds.

How desperately do you need a new mobile? Is yours broken by and not working? If so, buy a v cheap handset second hand or a v basic one. If not broken, wait.

Newnormal99 · 24/10/2021 13:05

If it's the same account they wouldn't credit check you anyway would they?

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 25/10/2021 06:07

I had to do the same and as far as I’m aware it wasn’t an issue. I never heard anything about it.

Does anyone know if Santander credit check before releasing funds after completion date?

after we got our mortgage offer I ordered a sofa on finance but now I’m stressing my self so much incase they see I have opened up a new account and decide not to release the funds after all! 😓😪😪😪
